Stranger Than Life

One of my favorites from the old National Lampoon Funny Pages
Whenever I saw AI art, I knew it reminded me of something. I'd seen it before on the pages of National Lampoon in MK Brown's Western Romance Comics. There were these weird people with hands for heads in this story that was about a woman and her cowboy husband who was always getting abducted by a strange Indian tribe.I was so happy to find this collection that has the entirety of Western Romance and other comics that were in the National Lampoon. I love the way MK Brown draws and the stories are strange and hilarious.

A wonderful collection of the great alternative artists M.K. Brown
From the wiki: M. K. Brown is an American cartoonist and painter whose work has appeared in many publications, including National Lampoon (1972-1981),[1] Mother Jones, Wimmen's Comix, The New Yorker, Playboy, among others.[2] She has written several books, created animations for The Tracey Ullman Show, and was a contributing artist to the "comic jam" graphic novel The Narrative Corpse. She is also an accomplished painter with work in galleries and many private collections.

...and you can roll out pie crust on Corian, but you can’t on tile
Not too many years ago I Googled MK Brown and came up with nothing. As soon as I discovered Stranger than Life I ordered it. Just got it. I Will spend hours tonight with coffee and an occasional cigar pouring through this. When my National Lampoons would come in the mail the first thing I would do is go to the comic section and read Aunt Mary’s Kitchen. God it was wonderful and still is. I’m always trying to guess which character looks like her. Perhaps the woman on page 65. Right now I have to clean my studio in preparation to paint something else that’s horrible.

it contains pretty much everything this exceptionally witty and talented cartoonist had ...
I've been dreaming of an MK Brown anthology for years'n years now, and this one fills the bill. Big and sumptuous, it contains pretty much everything this exceptionally witty and talented cartoonist had published from the early '70's and twenty-five years thereafter, in exquisite detail and with warts and all intact (in some strips you can see the texture of the watercolor paper she used; others, the areas where she cut and pasted some corrections or re-dos. All this reveals her process and is fascinating to me. I took it all in, between guffaws!) Given the quality of the publication and Amazon's excellent price, I'm thrilled to add this to my collection of cartoonists' work.

Best gift or coffee table book ever!
I love reading a few pages at a time, savoring it. Yum!I can't believe how many people are drawn ;-) to this book as it sits in our living room! I've never seen anything like it. They start chuckling and then sharing. Funny insightful conversations follow. Now that's a coffee table book that delivers! The cartoons are rooted in a wild past but are filled with wisdom and humor that rings true today. A perfect gift for anyone who enjoys a quirky take on life.

Attention MK Brown Fans !
If you're like me, you first discovered her in the National Lampoon prime years and quickly became a fan of her unusual style. However, years later, finding any of her compiled works was difficult at best. So, when this collection was released, I jumped on it. It is a terrific walk down memory lane and fitting tribute to her talent.

FABULOUS TALENT
M.K. Brown's cartoons are so spot-on, and having this collection is a source on ongoing pleasure! Her art work is so clever, with details that few cartoonists include, so that every drawing will offer more than just the 'joke'. Her humor is droll and original and you know you've found someone whose view of the world is delightfully offbeat, which is such a treat when it resonates with one's own.
