Grand Design: Pieter Coecke van Aelst and Renaissance Tapestry (Metropolitan Museum of Art (Hardcover))

I’ve wanted this catalogue for awhile. The exhibition was a revelation. The title and cover illustrate my one reservation. These works are of “grand design” and could use some details. The tapestries are so monumental and the compositions so dense that the half page illustrations while they document the works generally seem too small. I wish there were more sails such as the cover photo. I wish someone would put out a book on each of the series such as the creation tapestries and include details. That said this catalogue is still a must have.

Since a few months, I collect several books about renaissance tapestry for the new center of documentation in Boussu (Belgium).The Renaissance in the north of Europe and the different arts are the center of this future center. This book is really a wonderful complement of the books of Guy DELMARCEL and Mr CAMPBELL.Best regards,Roger NOEL
