Excellent book of astronomic filters
If you would like to know how and when to use astronomical filters this is the book which you should read. There are practical pictures of DS objects with entire filters. Plenty of useful knowledge for amateur astronomers. Highly recommended book !

Very helpful reference
This book, along with Choosing and Using Astronomical Eyepieces, should be an essential part of any amateur astronomer's reference library. It will help cut through the noise from marketers and the "advice" from colleagues, putting in your own hands the tools you need to make informed decisions about whether or not you need this or that astronomical filter. If you are an amateur astronomer and don't have this book, get it. You'll be glad you did.

Pretty disappointed
Pretty disappointed with the content about filters. I didn't know much about them before the book and I still don't after finishing the book. Virtually no detail on actually applying them to an imaging session.

Good if you are new to astronomy but......
If your just starting out in astronomy this will be a good book as a guide to the standard Wratten filters etc. Unfortunately it is a bit out dated and with new types of filters becoming available all the time, it would be hard to keep up to date. It does not go into the use of IR pass filters which help with poor "seeing" when imagining etc. If your further down the line with your astronomy this book could have been more about filters and not going into other subjects or features. The section on targets really needs updating - if I had not captured these targets myself already, I would have not idea from the pictures because of the really poor quality of the images (they really are bad).Overall a good book for beginners but could really do with a update with a lot more on the specialised filters now on the market and getting rid of the sections which are covered in more detail in other books in the series.
