Good information to refer to when you want to ask ...
I couldn't stop reading this book! It's a page turner. I read this book before placing an application for graduate school. Good information to refer to when you want to ask the right questions to admissions counselors and determine if social work is right for you, and if your suitable for it. It also mentions the various career fields one can qualify for with this degree in our changing social climate. The department of labor reports the field of social work and clinical therapists will be in demand within the next 10-years. I think the author publish this book at the right time when students are deciding how to "give back" and in what manner they may invest their time and money for a challenging yet rewarding career. I expect to send my letter of thanks to the publisher this week.

A Short Review
The book is not really the best book to use. And, to be quite frank, no book on MSW programs is a good book to use.I say this mostly becuase programs change their requirements and their expectations year after year.Your best bet is to use the book as a guide to help you narrow down your search, and to help you understand what the MSW program amy generally look like. But, really, any MSW progrma book can help you do it. And, you can get the information for free online. The book may help some, but for many the best bet is to find the program you are interested in and research what that program expects and is interested in.Also, the section about personal statements is a bit pretentious and biased. A personal statement should come from the student's perspective, and there isn't too much you can do wrong. The "Do's and Don'ts" are pretty common sense, and what you probably learned when writing your essay for undergrad.Overall, keep your money and do your research online and through the school you're thinking about applying to.Best of luck to all!!p.s.--I got into my first choice MSW program without muchhelp from this book!!!

Great Asset to Anyone Applying to MSW programs
This book was great. It answered many of my questions about the application process and gave me a comprehensive understanding of MSW programs. It has information inside of it that is nowhere to be found on the web. The profiles of programs in the back was *extremely* helpful. My only desire is that there were even more schools profiled (some of my programs did not make an appearance). Excellent aid for applying!

Wish I had read this before I started applying!
I was about half finished with two applications at MSW programs when I realized I felt unsure of how to proceed. I was surprised a book existed that could give clear and simple guidance through the process of applying to MSW programs. This book is well-written, divided into sections that you can skip over if they don't apply to you, and each chapter ends with a "dos and don'ts" summary. Appendixes offer worksheets to help organize your application information and some responses from specific colleges that returned surveys about their programs! A must- have reference for anyone applying to an MSW program! Also information about who should look into doctoral programs based on career goals.

I feel much better prepared to start my MSW
After reading this book I feel like I know more about the process of getting into a Masters of Social Work (MSW) program and going through it. I'm not so nervous about applying and I really enjoyed the information each school provided at the end of the book concerning their application process, usual mistakes in the application, and what makes each school's program unique. If you are considering going for your MSW then I would highly recommend this book.

Badly needs an update! 8 years old at this point
Good, could be better & more comprehensive. Badly needs to be updated from 2005 as SO much has changed and there are a ton of online programs now and I'm sure more in the pipeline.

Much outdated
Disappointing that so much info is not correct/not useful. Re: California schools, tuitions are 200%-300% of prices listed in book. And online programs like USC and U of Louisville and probably others are listed as "not" existing.
