Sita Ram's Painted Views of India: Lord Hastings's Journey from Calcutta to the Punjab, 1814 - 15

A beautiful visual record of India in colonial era.
The British Library is a vast repository of visual material on India and J.P.Losty, formerly Curator-in-Chief of such collections there, has published several beautiful compilations based on them. This compilation of nearly 200 of Sita Ram’s sketches of early nineteenth century Indian landscape, monuments and buildings is a visual delight too.. In fact his sketches compare very favourably with the better known sketches of contemporary British painters like William Hodges, Thomas & William Daniell. I rate this compilation as an eminently worthwhile acquisition.
