Not super accurate, but definitely adequate.
Backlight is very nice, and that's why I bought this one. This gauge does the job just adequately for home / hobby use. While it has instructions on how to calibrate, the device will not hold calibration to the controls provided. It is about 5-8% variance with each successive measure. If you need something more precise, you will need to spend more money.

Great tool for the $$
A great tool for the money. It seems to be accurate but it wont work on fiberglass cars like Corvettes. I have used it for many car purchases.

Excellent
Excellent for checking paint on automobiles. Unfortunately, I keep losing these but that is my own fault. Great quality with the ability to calibrate it every so often if needed

Save up for a better brand
This is a complete garbage product where I seriously did get exactly what I paid for. I thought I would plunk down sixty bucks for a nice entry level thickness gauge to help me visualize the progress I was making while either wet sanding scratches or aggressively polishing but this wasn't even that. I have detailed for nine years without ever burning through clear coat but on the first ticket I had where I had the opportunity to use this device I burned right through the clear (with 5k grit sandpaper, no less...it's like burning through with a magic eraser, FFS!) thinking right up to the very end that I had plenty of material to work with. All that to say that by saving a few hundred bucks on the front end I ended up spending a few hundred bucks on the back end by having to get a panel resprayed by a local paint shop. Calibration was (obviously) ineffective, live readings were wildly inaccurate, testing the same spot over and over lead to different readings every single time, the instructions used a lot of flowery language as if a student of English-As-A-Second-Language was interpreting at their desk via candlelight at 3 am. Save up a little longer for a more trusted brand OR use your gut. Either way you're going to end up doing better than you would if you wasted your money on this item.

The reading results depend heavily upon how square you are to the surface. Will a small foot at the reading end, it's a challenge. Might be best set it on continuous mode and slightly tip it around to get the lowest reading. Same idea on convex/concave surfaces. The included calibration plates ensures confidence of the unit itself. I primarily use it for the delta(differences) readings rather than the absolute values.

to get a consistent reading is a challenge. after using the meter for a while i can get better results but if you want better more reliable readings i'd opt for a better meter/gauge.
