Was expecting more
This movie is ok. Extremely poorly cast. Michael J Fox was not right for the main character. Chasing an x-wife that was supposed to be a model who neither looked like a model or anything worth chasing after. The mis-cast co workers are way too dramatic to be believable. The person cast as the main character's brother, could not even pass as an adopted relative. They had absolutely no connection in their scenes, as if they were filmed at different times, without each other, and edited together later. Not even the bar scene looked believable. That was more like a high school level performance of American Bandstand at a bar. They entire ferret section should have ended up on the editing room floor. It was like they wanted to add a tv sitcom comedy scene into the movie, last minute. I was embarrassed for the actors, writers and producers during the ferret crap.

Great movie & a Michael J Fox fan essential.
An essential for a Michael J Fox fan.One of his early roles. He proves without a doubt that he can carry a movie, all on his own. With the help of top level supporting cast, this is a must-watch.Co stars: Kiefer Sutherland, Phoebe Cates, Dianne Wiest and Jason Robards, and based on the novel by Jay McInerney. The director died in 1993, James Bridges. The category is drama. Has a light, relaxing feel, with enough of a plot to keep your attention. (Adult themes).

Slow
I saw this movie in the theater when it came out. When i ordered it, I confused this film with “Less Than Zero”, a contemporary film with Robert Downy Jr. In short this is a slow and boring film that does not hold up with time. The edgy scenes are not so edgy by today standards, and the 80s soundtrack is sparse and does not save the film.

A WEEK IN THE LIFE OF A COKEHEAD
Having lived through the cocaine 80's, I can assure you this flick hits the nail on the head. Forget about getting up and going to work tomorrow, where's the party? Humorous, compelling, and sad, with a marvelously redemptive ending. I'm not a big fan of Michael J. Fox, but I have to say this is the biggest role, in a small film, of his entire career. Forget TEENWOLF, this is great acting. Especially compelling is his soliloquy as he reassesses his marriage while he's swinging around a wine glass and bouncing off the walls of his living room. Great stuff. The funniest scene is when Sutherland is looking for coke in the dust of Fox's apartment and takes a freeze to the gums. Wow. Been there, done that.If you think the book was better than the movie, think again. The screenplay was written by the author, Jay McInerney. So it actually resembles the novel. Nice job.And those of you who think this is a stretch for Fox, think again. Michael had his own coke problem which is what drew him to this role in the first place. Great job, Michael. I think this the most mature performance of your career. Best of luck to you, brother. Sutherland is great too.And yes, I'm in total agreement with previous reviewers, this begs to be rereleased in widescreen.Don't be fooled by the lackluster reviews for this flick, it's one of the best films ever made about being lost in addiction. Hope this brings up the reviews a little. IT'S A WONDERFUL FILM.

Boring
So boring I had to fast forward threw some of the slowest parts, prolly one of his worst films MJF has done, if not the worst, but he did have solid acting, was just a boring ass story and almost pointless ending

Gift
This a gift for my granddaughter from her list of ideas. From her re-action I would say she was very pleased.

Tragic but nostalgic trip to the 80's
This movie is rather hard to watch, to see Michael J Fox character Jamie Conway sink deeper and deeper in drugs and misery, loosing his job, a few months after he's fiancée left him for a French guy.Phoebe Cates is really cold in this movie and somehow reminds me of personal experiences with coldhearted women. Sad.The movie itself is a look back through time, the music, cloth and the old New York skyline. Nostalgic but also sad.Picture quality is very good. 1.85:1 and a nice surround audio track .I recommend it!

Ok. Enough to keep your interest but not a classic.

Bright Lights, Big City
This movie should be taken in context, it is not you usual MJ Fox movie by any means. The film is a slice of life, with no begining or end, merely a real view of how life can be grim and bleak.See this if you want a real Fox film.
