The Honey Prescription: The Amazing Power of Honey as Medicine
J**E
An interesting and informative book for anyone interested in honey.
My reading interests are wide and varied and when I saw this interesting 243 page soft cover book (The Honey Prescription: The amazing power of honey as medicine by Nathaniel Altman) on Amazon for a bargain price I decided to purchase it.I just finished reading this very informative book and found it to be a very compelling read. I learned a lot of practical and valuable information on the subject of honey bees and the numerous medical uses of honey in the past and in contemporary times. This easy to read volume is organized into four parts covering the following topics: Who are the honeybees? Honey: the gift of the Gods, Sacred Bee, Sacred honey, honey in medicine, how does honey heal? How honey treats wounds, the clinical evidence, honey for burns, honey and internal disorders, honey in oral health, Honey: safe for infants? Safe for diabetics? Honey and wellness, the future of honey research, honey remedies, honey: key to beauty, a threatened species, restore the environment, protect the bees.If you are looking for information on the many valuable uses of honey you should check out this book.Rating: 5 Stars. Raw Unprocessed Wild Honey is the key to the nutrition and healing properties of real honey..
This book gives many personal stories of the antibacterial properties and healing miracles of Raw Honey. I found it to be an educational addition to our natural health library. Raw Honey certainly is not the same as the liquid sugar goo which you find in the regular grocery. Look for it at the health food store. Honey has more complex and complete nutrition than processed white sugars or syrup. The body processes honey more slowly than white sugar which avoids the rapid spike and then drop in blood sugar which we get from processed sugar. Our family has dropped 20 pounds and feels lighter and less burdened after eating raw veg & fruit, fish, less red meat, plus avoiding grain and dairy (mucoid plaque)..See Paleo Diet, Raw Foods Diet, Anti Parasite Diet (even in the USA!!) online.. You Tube it!!

Worth a read, however...
After reading The Honey Prescription, I definitely see honey in a different light. A majority of the book contains summaries of clinical trials where honey has been used to treat a particular health problem. There are also two chapters listing ways of using honey for health & beauty. However, as a beekeeper, I did spot a few inaccuracies in the text explaining how colonies and honey bees function. That said, I would say this book was worth the read. If I could, I would say 3.75 stars. The Good:Succinct information about topics coveredBroad variety of subjects: honeybees, history of medicinal honey use, contemporary use, clinical trials, problems facing bees, remediesContent provides convincing arguments for effectiveness of medicinal honey useThe Bad:A few incorrect/inaccurate pieces of information about beesMost topics were fairly shallowly covered, and written like a [good] student’s book report. (at times I wasn’t convinced the author fully understood what he was writing)Format got repetitive; summary of clinical study after summary clinical study.

not for skeptics, but the ones who already believe
Interesting read if not a bit overly optimistic/hyperbolic, but I find when you buy a book like this you should already be aware of the author’s biases. I enjoyed reading the information and research accompanying each part of the book. I wish there was more information and research however because if I did not already have the mindset that there could actually be the potential for all of this stuff being real, this book would not have convinced me. If you are skeptical, I expect you still will be. If you want a decently written book with hopeful assertions and acceptable anecdotes and bits of researched material, then I think you will like it.

three star
Lots of info & lots of theory about honey's anti bacterial and wound healing property but only one very basic wound healing salve/ointment recipe given in this book
