It works!
Warning to other users who are using this device to attach an internal hard drive to a PS2 console, if you don't correctly navigate in your boot loader the PS2 will not display this connection. The default on a McBoot appears to be "USB" so even though the PS2 DOES detect the internet hard drive, it's just not displaying it. I was flummoxed by this for hours and thought I had a bad connector. I actually just needed to press the d-pad to switch from USB to Internal Drive. You also may have Internal Drive off in your McBoot loader by default so check your settings before you assume the device is bad. I have to change from "off" to "auto" and save it, d-pad over, and then everything was displayed as expected. The device itself works great. Just plug-and-play. As long as your HDD is setup correctly you simply plug it into the connector then plug that into your PS2.

Effective SATA HDD solution
I’ve been looking to revive my PS2, and wanted to replace my old IDE HDD. This adapter goes right in place, and allows me to use a SATA SSD. While the adapter doesn’t sit flush to the console as the official adapter does, it’s not that big of a deal. Drops right in and reads the drive perfectly. Will possibly be buying another one in the near future for my niece who just took her fat PS2 out of storage

Works great, and a must-have for an old phat PS2.
NOTE: The sticker telling you not to connect a phone line doesn't conceal a network port. This particular adapter has no network support. In order to get networking on your PS2, you have to buy an official Sony HDD adapter. However, modern drives require a kit for the official adapter, but plug in just fine on this. This plugged in just fine on my PlayStation 2. As these systems age, the DVD drives have a chance to die. This hasn't happened to mine yet, but I'm getting more and more read errors as it ages, ESPECIALLY if it's laying vertically. With this and Free MCBoot, I can back my PS2 games up to a hard drive and play them even well after my PS2's disc drive gives out.

Excellent Choice to add a HDD to your "Phat" PS2
Finally got around to Soft-Modding my PS2 with a FreeMcBoot MC and then converting my game library to ISOs and running from a WD Scorpio 250GB 2.5" HDD. This adapter works perfectly. You'll notice in the pictures that I added some foam pads under the HDD and a small block of Balsa wood on the side. This is due to Sony's rather poor design, not this adapter. Sony didn't include any means of securing the HDD other than the data and power ports. The original Sony adapter had Ethernet included and was also IDE, not SATA. They also assumed users would want to put in 3.5" HHDs, which would fit marginally better but still far from perfect. Since my HDD is 2.5", the wood block provides support as I run my PS2 vertically. The foam ensures that the drive is snug and free to move around as well. PROS: Reasonable price. Works perfectly out of the box. CONS: None - aside from Sony's lazy design for the HDD bay, but easily remedied as illustrated. This is a great choice if you're looking to add a HDD to your "Phat" PS2. NOTE: Using the HDD requires modification, such as a Soft-Mod FreeMcBoot Memory card such as this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XB16TDY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Works for hard drive installation
Works as intended. Has two straight slot screws to attach to the back of the console. Only concern is there is some wiggle room for the hard drive and I'm worried it might come loose if I stand the console upright.

Fits ps2 fat and my hard drive
Good quality, definitely a must for playing backups on hard drive for the PlayStation 2 fat models.

Breathe new life into the greatest console of all time!
I had purchased an old fat PS2 back in 2003 as a graduation gift to myself, since a used one was only a few dollars more than a DVD player and I didn't have one. I got the fat PS2 specifically because they were cheaper and I wanted to modchip it. I never got around to modchipping it, and due to life circumstances, I had to put the thing in storage. My games were stolen, and you can't find PS2 games for cheap anymore at Gamestop and the like, so it just kindof sat there. I came across a youtube video randomly about how you could softmod your PS2 using the old network adapter and an IDE hard drive, which eventually lead to me discovering this. I bought this and a basic 500gig hard drive and went to work. My god, this thing is incredible. Setup was a little wonky but there are detailed walkthroughs online on how to format the hard drive to work with the PS2, and how to program it. I've put a hundred games on it from my childhood and it remains a permanent fixture in the living room hooked up to the big TV and my roommates and I play it several times a week. Get yourself component cables (or a PS2 to HDMI adapter), a few wireless controllers, and some large capacity memory cards and you're good to go. One of the best things about the PS2 community is that nearly every PS2 game has patches you can apply to their ISO files in order to give it true widescreen resolution. It was crazy playing the OG Kingdom Hearts and Budokai 3 with a widescreen aspect ratio. So yeah, it took 15 years to get around to doing it, but I finally got my PS2 modded! That being said there are a few issues to be aware of. -The thing doesn't sit quite as flush against the back of the PS2 like the network adapter does. -The screws are plastic, but easy to turn with a coin -The SATA connector feels a bit flimsy. This isn't the fault of the design, as there aren't any rails inside the PS2 to keep the hard drive in place and there's enough room for it to shift. Once you install this, avoid moving your PS2 as much as possible because the hard drive will have give and it can put extra stress on the SATA connector. -This version does not have the fake network port on the back, but the plastic has the stamp for it - for some reason, it was never cut out. Not that big of a deal but I would have preferred either a fake network port for aesthetics or nothing stamped into the plastic at all. Overall, if you have an old PS2, this is the perfect way to revive it. I've fallen in love with that generation of gaming all over again.
