Great book
This is a great book for anyone who either enjoys the outdoors or a good mystery. This book is the third in a series by Patrick Mcmanus, who has been published in Field & Stream and Outdoor Life. The whole series follows the exploits of a small town sherriff who of course solves mysteries along with a most interesting team of handpicked characters. There is mystery, action, outdoor adventures, comic relief, interesting characters, and even a little bit of a love story in all of these novels. The mysteries will keep you guessing and always leave the reader with several suspects to choose from until the very end. This book is not one that takes the reader several weeks to complete and is broken up into many short chapters to provide the reader with a good stopping point at almost any time. Yet it is also long enough to provide the reader with a complete storyline and plenty of enjoyment. This book almost begs them to read the whole thing again, even knowing who the villian already is. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys any of the above genres of books. I would also recommend this book to anyone who is not an avid reader. Almost anyone can find something in this book to relate to. After reading this series, it has definately became one of my most liked reads.

Same as all the rest
After awhile they start to blur together. I buy these because I have all the other books McManus has written, including a couple I got signed by him at a bookstore event years ago. It's sad to see a gifted writer fade "into the sunset, endlessly grousing." At least he recognizes on some level that's what's happening. As I wrote about "Double Jack Murders:"McManus is a gifted author. Unfortunately he is past his prime. The Sherriff Bo Tully mysteries are obviously McManus' fantasy alternate-universe life in which he is irresistible to women, smart, skilled, popular, and everything else appealing to the real male ego. The character isn't really that smart, unfortunately, and the plots are anything but realistic, containing holes big enough to drive Bo's truck through with room on the sides for his hangers-on.Nevertheless, if you know what to expect and are able to suspend disbelieve high enough to be out of reach of any common sense, the tales are readable and after a fashion humorous.

Bo Tully Rides Once More!
Tully is being pestered by a man's ex-wife who insists that he is dead and that his boarder killed him. Investigation shows no sign of this, but does discover three dead young men, murdered in a huckleberry patch. Evidence gathered by Dave the Indian indicates a fourth man escaped the slaughter. Something lurks in the beaver-infested swamp, and Tully calls on mountain man Poke Wimsey as a guide, along with Pap and Dave. The FBI is involved by now in the form of a female agent named Angie Phelps. Two more bodies will be recovered before the surprising climax of the story. But who will they be?Hope Pat McManus continues this series.Quoth the Raven...

Fun read
I can't say enough about Patrick's writing. I feel that all I am doing is repeating myself. Strong characters, fast paced, funny, good plot. If you can only read one writer's work read Patricks.

A quick and pale read....c'mon Pat!
Well, I'm a big fan of Patrick McManus's books, both humor and mystery. The past 3 Sheriff Bo Tulley have been slowly getting less interesting and more "coasting" of effort. They also seem to be getting shorter. This was a sit down and finish it in one sitting sort of book. Pat included Dave the Indian and Pap was almost slight filler, and even brought back the name "Eddie Muldoon" as a friend of Pap's when he was a boy. Is Pat Pop?Some of the incidental characters are interesting, the fortune teller, the biker gang etc...but some of the characters, mostly the bad guys, were "so what and undeveloped"...vs. the Scritch family.Even a mediocre McManus is fun to read, but the increased prices, short book and not a whole lot going on will make the next book a purchase to consider a bit harder. C'mon Pat, do it right or not at all.
