Wish I had found this a few years ago when I re-started my sax playing after a 30-year layoff. Lays out the scales and chords in a straightforward manner.

Not for novices. Lots of tough exercises. More for high intermediate player. Good value for $5.95.

This is an old-fashioned traditional work-book with 45 pages of scales. It is not really suited for beginners or the faint-hearted and there is very little explanation provided. However, the exercises are clearly labelled with the name of the scale or chord and could be usefully incorporated into your practice routines. The scales are mostly Major. If you are looking for a more diverse range of scales then  Encyclopedia of Scales, Modes and Melodic Patterns  would be worth considering.The final 3 pages has six solos for alto sax which are suited for intermediate players. This book gives a challenging set of exercises, scales etc for a developing sax player that if followed would indeed make it possible not only to play like Herman but more like one of his hard working sidemen.

Great book for meaningful practice.
