E-mail doesn't support TLS connections, support mostly unhelpful
This device is in my server room monitoring the A/C since we've had issues in the past with the unit going down. The WatchDog 15-PoE is great at measuring temperature, which is the core function. The PoE works fine and eliminates the need for a power cable. But there are downsides to this device that may be a show-stopper or some. For one, the device doesn't support sending emails to servers using TLS. Working with our mail people, we discovered by looking at the transmission logs that this device doesn't negotiate the connection properly at all. I'm not sure if the manufacturer tried to implement their own connection protocol or what, but this devices refuses to work with TLS.I contacted their support and, the gist was, it's your fault and something wrong with our email configuration. I'd believe this, but we have many other sensors and automated devices that properly implement TLS and work just fine with the same server settings. I ended up working around this issue by setting up an unencrypted email relay locked to the device, then using the relay to use TLS for outside emails. It's a kludge for sure but it's the only way I could get this to work.Their password policy for this device is terrible too, with random, unnecessary limitations on email characters, including the inability to use spaces and some special characters. Again, I contacted support about this and they pretty much said "Yeah, so what if we don't use security best practices?"Lastly, the configuration interface is pretty poorly done, with options that aren't well-explained. Documentation is sparse to non-existent, so be prepared to fool around with this when you have an hour or two of spare time.If you need a basic temperature monitor this will do the trick. If you aren't technologically savvy, need email with TLS, or want to have an non-guessable password, this is not for you. Don't bother contacting support either, as everything is the user's fault.

Works well for monitor remote locations for moisture and temp ...
Works well for monitor remote locations for moisture and temp issues. Geist makes a monitor suite that can be used to monitor more than one device, but it is expensive.
