~~ A man who persevered to make a change in history ~~
With photos accompanying the text this makes for a very interesting read. Born in 1919, Georgia, Jackie's real name was Jack Roosevelt Robinson. Segregation was a part of life. Jackie's grandparents had been former slaves but now owned their own farm. When Jackie's father left when he was just six months old, his mother decided to move the family to move to Pasadena, CA when her brother lived. What happened when the family moved to a white neighborhood? Good at sports from an early age, Jackie found a good mentor in Reverend Karl Davis. WWII interrupted his sports and found him in the army. What was the Jim Crow law? What happened when Jackie refused to move to the back of a bus? There was even segregation in sports. Branch Ricky was the man responsible for Jackie playing baseball for a major 'white' league. Would it all go smoothly? Could he make and change history? This is a well-written book geared towards children but informative enough for adults too who just want to a get a glimpse into Jackie's life. Our 10 year old had to do a report on Jackie so this was PERFECT for what she needed: not too long, not too short. We purchased this book for our Kindle. We were not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz

Loved it!
I really liked the real pictures of Jackie Robinson in this book. I thought it was a great idea for his sister to write some books about Jackie. She gives insight into her brother's life that not many authors would be able to give her view point. My fourth graders enjoyed the real-life photos. It was interesting to listen to their comments about the real-life pictures.

42
I was a kid and a devoted Dodger fan who lived in a Yankee household when Jackie Robinson joined the team. Listened to the games on the radio at night. I don't think I had much understanding of what was really going on at that time. So the movie 42 and the book were eye openers for me.

Awesome
Great book that was perfect for my son's book report. Written in a manner that highlights his achievements and emphasizes his contributions to civil rights. I read it as well and was surprised at how little I knew about this amazing man. Baseball is low on the list of his amazing achievements,

Wonderful, Loving Tribute
Ms. Robinson does a lovely job of educating children about her amazing father. I can't wait to teach my nieces and nephew about Jackie Robinson and what he means to baseball and this country and this is a good start.

Jackie Robinson hero
Sharon Robinson tells the story of her father in simple terms so that young people will come to know the greatness of her father. I would highly recommend this book for baseball fans young and old.

A must have for a child's library!
I loved this. Let's never forget this great Baseball player and human being! I am building my child's library and figured this is an absolute must! Bonus that it is written by his daughter.
