The Vampire Book: The Encyclopedia of the Undead (The Real Unexplained! Collection)

I found this encyclopedia while looking at Amazon reviews for another vampire encyclopedia. Apparently this one is THE one and I can see why! I run a vampire bookclub so I find this frequently useful when I want answers on something vampire related. It’s fun to use as a coffee table book, too.

This is a great reference book! Has pretty much anything and everything you might ever want to look up about vampires. Nicely packaged. Quickly shipped.

This book is a big book containing thousands of references to all subjects related to vampires. If you have a vampire enthusiast in your family, this is the book to get them. Everything from movies, music, popular culture, literature and games, this book references every known subject related to vampirism. From legends, to myth and folklore, to how vampires are depicted in hundreds of global cultures, this book has it. Seriously, this book is massive!

Beware!!! There are two different versions of this 3rd edition. One was published in 2010 and the other was published in 2014. I had previously ordered the 2014 edition but found it unsatisfactory. In that I had found out that it had less pages than the 2010 version. Which, for me, means less information. And the book was flimsy. So after returning the 2014 edition, I went ahead and ordered the 2010 edition. (Which is what this review is for). Now it does have more pages than the 2014 edition. And the book is more sturdy than the 2014 version. But it doesn't have the number of pages that are in the product description. Which states it has 944 pages. When in fact it has only 909 pages. This erroneous description is not only on Amazon's page but on the publisher's site. I even made sure the ISBN was the same on both sites. To make sure it was the same edition year (2010). And it was. So it seems both sites are selling a book with the wrong information. Go figure. One thing I do miss is a section of colored stills from movies, TV, etc... This was in the 1st and 2nd edition. But is not included in either of the 3rd editions. In any case I still think it is a good book for anyone wanting to bone up on their vampire lore, history, and various facets of vampire entertainment. If you already have the 1st and 2nd edition, which I do, I would recommend you to get this one to add to your collection as well. It makes for a nice update.

everything you always wanted to know about Vampires but did not dare to ask! that could be the title of this gigantic Encyclopedia of 900 pages on Vampires! from the earliest movies to the latest,so many entries on Vampiric Life! from the wolfsbane to the use of garlic! everything is mentionned! and more serious topics as well! very learned work!!!

Aside from some grammatical errors, I found this book excellant. What is helpful is the list of sources at the end of each entry, which allows one to continue to pursue subsequent information about each entry. I particularly liked the constant cross-referencing and the fact that Melton gives the historical context of some of the legends and foklore.

I love Vampires as only movie, folk lord stories, books. I have all three editions of The Vampire Book: The Encyclopedia Of The Undead. I love to read a lot and I like gothic books and stories. Good reading to me on a dark raining night just a light from a candle to read by. Enjoy my friend a good read and more to your mind of occult of horror of vampires.

This book was really informative, I did a speech about Vampire's ( College class) and all this info was great to have , and even my professor got a kick when he found out I had a encyclopedia for Vampires (btw These people ship there products quick )
