PAY ATTENTION TO VERSION YOU ARE BUYING
As of Aug 2017 there are 4 versions of this camera listed on this page. It is important to note that they are NOT the same camera but in different colors. For example, one review tried to infer these would only take mini-SD cards. That was not the case with my "RD-1000 Green" model. Also, the confusion on the page makes it hard to know if you are getting a "low light" or a "no light" infrared camera. What I got certainly seems to be "no light", I can't see any flashes in complete darkness. Lastly, some reviews said the manual was hard to understand. With so many feautures you do need to do some reading if you are a first time user, but it is a fairly comprehensive manual and in very good English (RD-1000 Green model). The LCD preview screen inside the unit (accessed inside hinged door) is a great way to see what you captured before hooking it up to a computer. My only negative of this purchase is that for some reason it seems incabable of capturing hovering/feeding humming birds (tried at various ranges with high speed SDK SanDisk Extreme 32GB 90 Mb/s SDHC UHS-I Card (SDSDXVE-032G-GNCIN) [Newest Version] and with all sensors on). Captures all other birds fine. Night function working very well with skunks, possums, and coons. I won't go into all the specs because there are too many, but it takes 8 AA batteries (although in a pinch it also runs on just 4) or can be plugged into wall outlet. The bottom is threaded to accept a tripod mount. It can be used for manual pictures and video as well. Takes up to 32 MB card (max). Also note that the USB cord is somewhat hidden in a "false bottom" in the box and is easy to overlook.

It's a solid game camera
I use this to monitor my hunting areas for game leading up to deer season. It works well for that purpose. I've had it out for months on the first set of batteries and it has not run out of juice yet. I used a large SD card (1GB) and it has hundreds of pictures of deer that are too smart to come around when I'm out, but at least I know they are around.During non-deer season, I use it to monitor boundary lines where we suffer from chronic trespassing. It does well for that purpose, too. The color and form factor conceal pretty well on darker trees with heavy bark. It isn't exactly stealthy on its own, but it can be placed where it is unlikely to be seen easily and where it can get a good view of things.I use the still photo mode, rather than video. It occasionally takes pictures where I struggle to see what is triggering it, but then I'll eventually see the squirrel tail sticking out from behind a trunk. Only rarely does it seem that windy conditions make it take pictures. The picture quality is good. It isn't a high end portrait camera - it's a game camera, but it still gets good shots of the field of vision during day and night. The night vision, especially up close, sometimes has strong exposures that lose detail, but I'm looking for deer here, not making art, and I can see what's in the frame as well as the build of the animal and the racks very clearly. Occasionally, if something is running through the field of vision, I don't get a good shot of it, but that's photography generally, and I don't expect the camera to have perfect reaction time or crisp photos of deer running at speed through the frame.Operation is pretty simple. For viewing photos, I take the card out and skip through the pictures on my laptop, but I've sat in my truck and looked through them on the view screen and found that function to be just fine. It's durable and weather tight. I've had it out for months at a time in all kinds of weather with no apparent ill effects. Snow and rain and wind don't seem to have caused any difficulties for it.I haven't had any problems with the mounting strap. Whenever I've attached it to a tree, it's stayed there with no problems. It fits decent-sized trees, probably maxing at about 12" diameter, I would guess. In most woods, you can find something that size or smaller close enough to where you need to put this. If that's a huge problem, get yourself a post and mount it to that.No regrets. Do I like it? Yes. Do I love it? No, but it's a tool to solve a problem, not something I expect to deal with daily that I really need to be in love with, like my truck or my phone or something like that. The biggest "con", if it really is one, is that the interface is serviceable but a little clunky. The documentation isn't great, either. Pros: I really like the durability and price point. It's a solid product. I do not regret buying it. It solved the problems I wanted solved at a reasonable price.

This camera takes very clear pictures in the daytime and adequate enough photos in the dark to be able to identify animal species, size, etc. I have had one working for 6 weeks now. It has taken well over a thousand photos, yet the batteries still show over 80% charged. Yeah, you do have to reset date and time when changing batteries- an inconvenience. Also, I have not figured out how to replay pics on the camera itself, but I'm sure that is operator error. I really have not spent a lot of time with it. Sure wish they made a cellular compatible camera. In any case, I will be buying two more of these soon.
