The FBI needs to think again in this thriller!
The House majority whip was shot dead in the Capitol office. The killer thought he was too smart to clean the evidence to eliminate himself from being sought by the FBI. They watched the recordings from the CCTV cameras and identified the “perpetrator”. His name was Joe DeMarco who was the son of the former Italian-American mobster. The victim, Lyle Canton, had recently lost his wife in a road accident four months earlier. The wealthy CEO of Spear Industries had had an affair with Mrs Canton. Is Spear connected to DeMarco? Have the FBI caught the right person? Especially as he claimed that he was innocent. This title was left to the readers to figure out who was really under house arrest because DeMarco was in custody. This book was well written and a good thriller!ColumbpoirotBreakaway Reviewers received a copy of the book to review

Mike Lawson - One of the best fiction writers you never heard of
The Joe DeMarco series is a classic. Joe has a murky employmentrelationship with John Mahoney, a corrupt, alcoholic Washington, DC big whig.Joe has an impressive title, which no one understands, but he is basicallya bagman and fixer for Mahoney. Joe is not a bad guy, but he does thingsfor Mahoney which Mahoney does not want linked to himself. In this book Joe becomes a fall guy in a murder he did not commit. Buthe is framed so well, he may end up in prison the rest of his life - if he isnot killed awaiting trial. His mysterious friend Emma, a powerful womanwho spent 30 years at the DIA, pulls out all the stops to find who the killer really is;and free Joe. Great story. This is the 13th book in the Joe DeMarco series. They areall good. Fred Dimond

Poorly written
It is bad enough with the news media picking on our President, now novelists have to do. The author apparently thinks it is funny that the politicians in Washington are all crooks. Even the titular character is not too clean. Now lets bring in the corrupt CIA & NSA, inept FBI and you have a plot. The main character, is in the book for about 10%. The heroine, after getting a thorough briefing on her sexual preferences, dominates the rest. The ending trite and meaningless. Don't waste your money, I am angry with myself for wasting mine.

Not one of his best
I have enjoyed all of Lawson's books but was disappointed in this one as early as page 2 with this one sentence: "A smiling portrait of the fool who was now president was prominently displayed." Don't we get enough of this type of diatribe from the MSM? Unlike many of the reviewers who received a free copy for their review, I had to pay for this book and I regret having purchased it.

Not your typical Joe Demarco thriller, but still generally enjoyable
Even though Joe Demarco was only a secondary character, I enjoyed the book as we got to learn more about the other recurring characters in previous novels. I just wish that the author didn’t feel the need to advance his own political beliefs in the novel. These sentiments were only done a few times. However, I don’t read this authors books for his political theory. If it is important for him to share his views, start a blog. Bring back Joe and focus on the story. I believe that you have a loyal fan base, why alienate some of us?

Emma saves the day, as usual
I love the Demarco books and am always on edge for another. This one starts out a little difficult because Joe is quickly accused of murder and thrown in jail. So who's he going to call? Emma, of course, who proceeds to unwind the mess Joe finds himself in. To be fair, this time Joe didn't cause the mess himself, but that doesn't mean it will be easy to get out of. But I gotta tell ya; it's kind of a cliff hanger. We will have to wait til the next book to see how Joe gets out of this one. Starts a little slow, but quickly picks up into what we have grown to expect from Lawson.

4 1/2 stars ; best in series so far
Joe DeMarco is an amiable non practicing lawyer who performs vague duties for an alcoholic ex Speaker of the House. He loves golf and works from an obscure office in the Capitol. He is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. He is cleverly framed for the murder of an obnoxious leader of the majority. His friend, a former spook attempts to extricate him and thwart attempts on his life. The conspiracy unravels. Russian oligarchs and the NSA play a role and the writer intelligently discusses how things work in Putin’s Russia. This is the best I the 11 book series.

Best Joe DeMarco book EVER!
Highly recommended! I read this book (300+ pages) in one day because I simply couldn't put it down. I've read all the books in the DeMarco series and in my opinion, this one was the best. Great writing and edge-of-your seat twists and turns made this a great reading experience. The only downside is that we're going to have to wait a while for the next book in the series.

Classic
Another classic writing by Mike Lawson. The DeMarco series holds your attention while entertaining at the same time. Not many writers my wife and I both look forward to reading. Can't wait for the next story!

Masterful
Take your hero off the board. Don't let him in the game for 250 pages. Yet the story is still a page turner. That is an author at the top of his game. And next, it all depends on an election. You gotta love it.

Ok
I have read all the Demarco books, and loved them. The problem with this book is that it's less Demarco and more everyone else. The Irish politician is getting old. His lack of empathy for his henchman is implausible. Read if you must, but I would skip
