Okuma Nomad Express - MH
Excellent travel rod. Exceeded my expectations. I used the MH version paired with a Penn Pursuit III 4000 and spooled with 12lb Sufix Superior. I caught the cero mackerel in the photo with this setup. Handled it easily.I also used this rod for some bridge fishing using a 1oz egg sinker w/ small pin fish for bait on a knocker rig. The rod handled this heavy bait combo surprising well. Nice flex at the tip and transitions quickly to a stiff/fast action. I did not feel like the rod was overloaded using a couple ounces of weight/bait.The reel seat is large enough for spinning reels with larger mounting bases (I have a Penn Fierce 8000 that fits this rod). The soft travel case is nice but would not provide protection from being crushed, so plan accordingly. The rod sections stayed together well after an afternoon of casting. But as with any multi-piece reel, check the connections periodically while fishing.Overall a great rod and I'm glad I purchased it.

Best Inshore Saltwater Travel Rod for Under $100
I just got back from the US Virgin Islands where I put this rod to use. Before my trip, I spent about six hours total researching the best travel rod to bring with me, without breaking the bank. I realized I'll only use this rod when I fly which is only about once a year and decided I would rather save my cash for other fishing gear I'll use more frequently. That alone prevented me from purchasing the more expensive St. Croix travel rod or Okuma Nomad. After searching all over the Internet, this rod checked all of the boxes for me and I picked it up for $83 in March 2019.- The rod and case fit diagonally inside my suitcase. My buddy had the same rod and carried his on the plane, no questions asked (JetBlue March 2019)- I paired the rod with both a 4000 and 5000 size reel - both reels felt nice and balanced- I could easily chuck .5 oz to 2 oz baits. This was my only concern with this rod before purchasing. However, I was fishing from shore, so I was chucking baits as hard as I could and never worried about the rod exploding!- Unfortunately, the biggest fish I landed was a 2lbs yellowtail snapper, so I didn't get to test the rod's backbone, but it performed as expected.- This is my first Okuma rod and for $83 I'm impressed with the quality and finish of the rod.Hope this helps!

Decent Inshore Travel Rod
This is a decent inshore saltwater rod. It's a bit stiff and the action can get better, but I disagree with the reviews stating that the ferrules are weak or misplaced. This rod has brought in very good sized jacks, snook, and small tarpon with no issue at all. It's a great value at the price.

Solid Performance - Great Customer Service
Purchased three Nomad Xpress model NT xi-S-703MH 7'0'' for travel fishing early June 2019. Paired with Daiwa 4000D-C Fuego LT and Penn Battle II 4000 reels. These are stiff, fast action rods with more than enough backbone for coastal fishing. Action is in the upper segment. I haven't noticed any issues with the segments being too loose or too tight. They assemble and break down fine. Fished 20lb tarpon with 1/4 oz to 3/4 oz spoons, snook with freeline live bait, and surf with 1.5 oz sinker - no problems. That's a 52" bonnethead - I didn't weigh it, but it pulled pretty hard. One rod had a guide ring fall out about our third time out. I called Okuma customer service and they replaced the rod no questions asked and even sent me a shipping label. If it matters, it's a good looking rod too. Very pleased and will purchase Okuma products again in the future.

Weak Rod Material
I caught a snag and gently pulled up on the rod and the top 1/4 of the rod snapped off. It is hollow fiber and not even reinforced. very disappointed because the guides looked so strong and that is the reason I bought it because my other rods had cheap guides. It also happened to my sons who had the Medium Light.

Great all-around
Bought this rod after a great deal of research and reading other's reviews. After much research, so glad I purchased this one. Lightweight and easy to carry. Took to FLA and used inshore fishing as well as pier fishing. Easily landed speckle trout from shore and bridge. Same for lady fish and spanish mackerel from bridge. Enough backbone to give you confidence when fishing from bridge/pier, but sensitive enough to cast 1/8 and 1/4 ounce lures and jigs. Paired rod with Stradic 2500. Very nice feel. Had a Penn Battle II 4000 and although felt really nice, never used it during my trip. I will bring this rod wherever i travel as it can fit inside your medium/large sized suitcase or simply carry with you as carryon. I placed bags of soft plastics inside case with rod to help protect the unit as I carried around. So glad I went with this.

The product is slightly different from the picture even though I requested a replacement but it was the same. In the picture it has a hook holder, and the space in the handle appears to be blue steel. While the one I got does not have the hook holder the space handle is black plastic.

worth the extra $$$ to skip the xpress
Nice rod but not nearly as nice as the standard nomad inshore rod. The "xpress" skips all the really quality features like aluminum reel seat, grip on rod sections, blue blank, ect.
