LUXURIOUS EDITION WITH MEASURE NUMBERS
The music is oversized, so it is easy to read and you feel it is easier to play because the notes are not all squooshed close together.I am an adult cello student. For cello, the parts are pretty easy and perhaps a tad repetitive in places, but everyone is counting on cello to be the metronome / driving force, so tell yourself that. Then there are the occasional fast and, if you are a newer player, tricky measures, but not so long or so many that you panic. I am new to string quartet playing, and it is very helpful because you really have to count every beat, so it's good practice for that. You cannot hide like in orchestra. Lastly and most important, these quartets are truly gorgeous. They are a somewhat complex tapestry, but not so totally polyphonic as to feel like gibberish. As noted in the heading, there are measure numbers, which is useful for rehearsal.I should also clarify: there are seperate parts for each of the 4 instruments, and no main score. Some bowings are marked. I am taking a string quartet class, and the teacher (who is just excellent) has us add bowings in some places where there are none, and sometimes we change the bowings that are printed.
