Easy to follow
I've built several of the patterns in the book and they are all easy to follow. Every box I've built has attracted the right birds to it and they come back year after year.

Lots of good choices
I made 7 houses for Christmas (and one for me.) The instructions contain what to buy - which is very helpful. And there are some clever additions to hold the cleaning door closed, etc. I didn't give it 5 stars because there are hints that you need to cut on at an angle to for the roof, but it isn't well explained. My first house has some pretty big gaps along the roof line. The rest of the houses went smoothly. The one other thing, it says to use 2" galvanized ring shank nails as the 'hinge'. You need to pre-drill the hole or the wood will split.

Great reference - good projects to do with kids.
Great info! I never realized how important the entry hole size matters to attract the birds you'd like to help and enjoy.

Far superior but at aimed at the American market
Once the Head-Gardener had decided to place bird-boxes at various intervals around the garden I was soon very busy in the workshop producing whatever des-res could be made from whatever was available. Although the task does not require the expertise of an expert carpenter, the right size access holes are vitally important. As an example, the Coal Tit requires a hole which is 2mm larger than a Blue Tit and a Great Tit requires yet another 2mm. The Wren, Robin, Blackbird and Thrush, however, want something different altogether.Looking to find such sizes and add a few new ideas to those which were already firmly entrenched I purchased 3 books on the subject. The first two failed miserably by either omitting hole sizes altogether or simply assumed a 28mm hole would suit them all. This book, however, is far superior and the author clearly understands his subject. In short, there are some very good ideas for bird boxes put together in a practical mannerThe only problem is the product is aimed at the American market. So, if ever I get a Black-capped Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, Eastern Bluebird, Northern Flicker or Barred Owl looking for a home, I will know exactly how to act as an appropriate Estate Agent - or is that Realtor?I was in two minds about an appropriate rating. 5 Stars for being such a good book or only One Star for being (almost) in a foreign language. I settled for a 3 Star compromise.NM
