Fire & Spice Pickle Kit Refill

This is great stuff. We used fresh pickling cucumbers, so they’re good and snappy! This is the first time I’ve ever tried anything like this, but it was easy and the end result is delicious. Had to use 2 packets for this big jar, but still worth it. They’re pretty spicy, so maybe I didn’t need to use both. Still though, good stuff!

The vinegar and salt are well-balanced. The pickles are definitely spicy (from the pepper flakes). The spiciness is an "in-your-face" kind of heat, too. If they are not hot enough for your liking, though, it's super-easy to just add in some fresh jalapenos or chili peppers to up the Scoville units! I wish the refills were a little cheaper. I paid d$10/box, and I can get 24 oz of pickles from one packet of mix if I pack the jars really tight and use all the mix (sometimes I have to add a few more teaspoons of mix --- you can make more water-vinegar mix by changing the "cups" on the package to teaspoons and mix accordingly to fill your jars). At $2.50/packet, that's about what I'd pay for brand-name pickles. I still like this mix, though.

We love these in our family! Wish there was a bigger box to buy. Easy to make and family friendly. Great for the whole fam!

We have a ton of cucumbers coming in and I was in a hurry to get a batch made up so I purchased this kit as well as the Dill variety. I used three of the spice packets (the kit comes with 4) and tripled the water and vinegar called for to essentially make a triple batch. The product is easy to use and the end product pickles were very good. Nice amount of spice..not crazy hot but pleasantly spicy.The only negative is that $10 for a couple of small spice packets is pretty steep. One could buy the basic spices and make a similar recipe to be found online for a fraction of the cost. But the price paid is for the convenience of having everything ready to go out of the box.If you only want to make a couple jars of pickles once a year, this is a good kit. If you're going to make them regularly or in any quantity I'd suggest getting a recipe and making your own pickling spices.

Used this to make really great pickled asparagus.Bought another box to make other veggies pickled.

I have more beans than I can eat right now and the freezer is full so I decided to try dilly beans again. I had this mix leftover from last year (used it on cucumbers and it was very good). So I decided to try it for dilly beans. Used two packets and a quart jar and they are awesome. And HOT. Much better than your standard kosher dill mix.
