Rouge Banjo

Great starter banjo for the price. No complaints. The banjo sounds good and plays well. Would suggest this instrument to another person.

It's ok, if you're deciding if you want to learn.

I picked up a rogue (not this same model - mine has a resonator) quality isn't quite there. It's not horrible but it's not great either. The high G tuning machine is, excuse my choice of terms but 'piss poor'. I think that alone makes me give it a 3. I'd give it a 2.5 if possible, because if you make a stringed instrument, now, with less than operable tuning equipment you deserve a good ribbing. But again - if you're deciding whether or not the banjo is for you it's a good way to decide - without breaking the bank. Banjos like so many other instruments are EXPENSIVE! I moved up to a Goodtime 2 by Deering. I've played this instrument so much more consistently than the Rogue that it's proved it's worth.Aside from my review I would suggest the Folk of the wood URL - there is a page of banjo lessons that are just great for banjo players - quite a few scales, which any musician will tell you is the core of beginner practice. My playing has already gone up a notch since working my scales every night for 30 minutes.Have fun!

Solid Instrument, Great Price, Reliable Company

I was looking for a decent starter banjo for my mom, and bought the Rogue Travel Banjo after extensive searching. I read numerous product reviews, and decided that this was the best option for the money I had to spend. It's a beautiful instrument. I don't know if it would hold up for professional use, but it is definitely an ideal option for a beginner who wants to get started without investing a lot. An acquaintance who plays professionally put the bridge in and turned it for me, and he thought it was a solid instrument as well. The company did a great job packing it for shipping, and it arrived in just a few days - much quicker than I ever would have expected. This banjo was well worth the price, and the extra time I spent researching my options.

Not great

2 strings broke on day 1. I'm not a banjo player, nor a guitar player, so perhaps not the best perosn to rate this product. However, i would think that the strings wouldn't pop off on day 1.

Fine buy for the money

This is a plain, no frills banjo. It is true that you have to set up the bridge, but that is easy and also a good skill to learn. Once tuned, it seems very maintenance-free. A very basic but pleasant-sounding instrument that is pretty easy on the wallet. As another reviewer suggested, some old hand towel, dishrag or similar in the back will slightly muffle the sound and take off a bit of harsh banjo edge. It makes it easier on your friends and neighbors as you learn the instrument or practice new technique. A little experimentation here is advised, as different materials and sizes can affect the sound in different ways. Have fun.

A Good Honest Banjo

I needed a spare banjo for travel purposes, or one that my kids can mess with without my getting too worried about damage. What I got was a pretty darn good banjo. I'm impressed.

Don't Buy Cheap Instruments

Many people are writing good reviews for this product who have no experience playing the banjo. It may be cheaply priced, but there's a reason it is! It's not good for beginners because the strings are too high so you have to press harder. The sound is also dull. Spend more money and buy a Goodtime banjo from Deering.
