Is this used only for holding and transporting balls or can this help in collecting balls too?

yes it's also used to collect the balls on the court by flipping up the legs. then you just push down on the basket to pick up the ball. the ball is pushed into the basket. my son really likes his.

Does this basket feel sturdy and strong?

I own four, as we are couple and play in dual locations always on hartru courts. Because we practice often against ball machines, 70 balls are more hastily retrieved with a pair. They are much lighter than metal, and because of the clay, are constantly subject to end banking to lesson transfer to the machine's interior. Our steel retrievers have been donated to Goodwill. We hit balls 4 or more days a week, and I would say they have with confidence that, if assembled properly, they are sturdy and strong. In the stand posture, it has more flexibility than steel due to,light weight and grooved housings. If any one of ours does break, it will be replaced quickly.

Can this be used for pickleballs?
