Protec Bassoon PRO PAC Case, Model PB317

WOW! This is the best bassoon case I've ever used! Our church has a student grade, wooden Mirafone bassoon in a beat up old case. It deserved better and I intended to buy a new case for over a decade. When I saw this case, I decided to pull the trigger.When it arrived, it greatly exceeded my expectations! The bassoon fit snugly without movement. There are slots for two bocals and a compartment for a reed case and seat/neck strap. There are two generous pockets on the outside. One large enough for music folders, the other with an organizer for pencils and markers. It includes a shoulder strap and backpack straps are available. The construction is top notch with heavy duty zippers and a padded handle. The only minor improvement I would suggest is to make the interior a lighter color like blue or red.If you have a traditional bassoon case with an annoying canvas cover, ditch it and get this case. It's a tremendous value for the money and it comes with a 5-year warranty. Five Stars!!!

This case fits my Fox bassoon perfectly. It's lightweight, durable, and has solid construction. I love the thick padding and the large pockets for music, supplies, personal items, etc. I definitely recommend this case! The quality is excellent!

Exactly what I needed. I have a traditional heavy wood case with leather outer cover that weighs more than twice the bassoon. My husband recently got a case like this for his cello and I was envious prompting me to investigate similar options for the bassoon. Wish I had this years ago. I have a Fox bassoon and it fits snugly and safely inside. Plenty of space and pockets for reeds, cleaning supplies and other stuff. Bocal pocket holds 2 securely inside the main pouch. Easy to get bassoon in and out. I actually use the case to hold the bassoon as I put it together - it stands nicely in it on the church pew where I play each Sunday. Well constructed, good zippers. I usually carry over my shoulder but the handle works fine, too. Highly recommend. Wish I had this during school when I was lugging it around with 3 other instruments at the same time.

It’s a very nice case — cradles my horn nicely. I wish the large exterior pocket were slightly deeper to better accommodate a full size band folder.

The case is not super expensive, so we were not sure what to expect. Daughter’s old case is done…years of use by various students had killed it…so a new one was necessary.The case is soft on the exterior, has pockets and decent carry handles. The inside is “velvet” (probably synthetic) but it covers semi solid panels which is nice, as it affords the bassoon protection. The inside also has compartments.The zipper closure is a question mark, but I would say they will be okay so long as modest careful use is employed.Good buy under the circumstances.

I am VERY happy with this case! My bassoon is an old Selmer, and it fits perfectly. Very snug and secure, yet no pressure on any of the delicate keys, and the case closed easily without having to press down on the top. It will be held in place and protected even if the case gets thrown around, and that's what I was looking for. It also looks and feels of high quality overall. And I really like the way the bocals are stored (and so did my son, who is in college to become a professional bassoonist). A couple of reviewers complained about the bocal storage, but they seem much more protected in this case than in more traditional setups I've seen. All that, and this was hands-down the least expensive case I found when researching it--I didn't want to spend a lot on a case for an old plastic instrument, but I also want it to last many more years and this case will protect it for sure. And on top of all that, it arrived four days ahead of the shipping estimate!

I love this case! I ordered it because my old case was falling apart and I wanted something with a bit more security. This case is awesome. It has lots of cush, lots of space, that nice beautiful black velvet inside, and even better, exterior pockets for stuff like etude books, tuners, and even a pocket in which you could put pencils, your wallet, etc. It's been amazing. Plus, it looks very professional so I'm no longer walking around looking like an exhausted student and more like the professional bassoonist I am.

The Protec bassoon case has evolved steadily over the years into the very best values in the industry. Each successive edition has included needed improvements and upgrades. The case, as delivered currently, has every facility you'd need for a modern bassoon case. The orientation of the joints has been optimized for several years now. They've finally oriented the storage compartment door to open in the convenient direction. The resilience of the foam padding in the cover is firm but gentle enough so as not to overload the keywork. And something I've been waiting for to make the perfect case,,,they've listened and added the much needed end handle. The zippers (which is the life of all these cases) is the best most robust, free flowing available. And to assure their longevity, the equally robust corner protection helps to avoid damage to the vulnerable corners and bottom. Yes, the case is a bit heavier than the more compact offerings, but then there's more storage in the Protec case. Not to mention that the Protec is less than half the price of the aforementioned. I have been a professional bassoonist in the Calgary Philharmonic for almost 40 years and must say that I am extreme;y happy and surprised at the quality of this case. It is well designed and appears to be extremely durable. The extra pockets fit reed tools and music folders perfectly. The case is also a perfect fit for my Heckel 5000 series bassoon. All the joints fit snugly and do not move around at all. Build quality is good and I appreciated the good stylish shoulder strap and various utility loops. One concerns: the zippers are quite snug and a bit rough around the corners and I fear that over time they may break or wear out (I have seen this too many times with coats and suitcases). However, I did write to the company with this concern. Their reply was prompt and courteous, advising me to rub candle wax over the zipper, and to contact them if anything goes wrong. (case is warrantied for 5 years)I shall update this review in a year to let you all know how it is holding up. But so far I am enjoying the case immensely and my colleagues are getting tired of me bragging about how inexpensive it was.2024 UPDATE: five years later, this case is still holding up and is in great shape as if it were new!

I needed a case for my late 18th Century Goulding Bassoon. It's a fragile museum quality instrument, but this case provides the protection I need. And the cost is reasonable for the good quality received.
