I have used several bassoon reed cases in the past, including ones I made myself, and think that this was still the most cost effective case I have purchased. It kept all of my reeds secure; there was no worry about them falling out if I opened up the case upside-down by mistake and they did not rattle around in the case once the lid was closed. For anybody concerned about ventilation, the pictures provided on Amazon do not make it readily apparent, but there is plenty of ventilation. At the back of the case, where the joint is, there is a large slit that runs almost the entire width of the case that provides ventilation. It's not large enough to cause concern about your reeds falling out or other objects damaging them, but it is large enough to see the bottom of your reeds. I have used this case for over a year now and have not had any trouble with my reeds growing mold. In fact, they've looked healthier than they have being stored in other, more expensive cases. My two biggest criticisms, though not deal breakers, were that this case does not hold more than five reeds and the reeds are spaced very closely together. Every time I put away my reeds, I have to be careful not to knock one against another. I would not recommend this case for anybody who does a lot of traveling or puts their case in precarious situations. The case is hard plastic and will adequately protect your reeds, however it's not as durable as a wooden case. My reeds never suffered any damage while I used this case, but I would not recommend this case if you need more heavy duty protection.

I tried several reed cases and this one is the best for the price. I did have some reeds mildew in the first one I had. Now that I bought a second one I make sure I take it out and open it to air when I get home and I take out the reeds I used that day, wash them, and put them on pegs to dry. The foam padding can also be lightly wetted with original Listerine. I like this case because it is big enough to hold on to without fumbling but it is small enough to slide into a shirt pocket. Does not crush in a jeans pocket.

In short, I really do like this case. The color is pretty, and what can I say, I'm a sucker for aesthetic. Being a double reed player, you don't always get all of the fun color options as the more popular instruments do. I bought this case for both my bassoon and oboe reeds, in different colors. However for some reason, mold THRIVES in this bassoon reed case. I don't know why- but it does. You can get around this by allowing your reeds to air out before putting them away, but this is not always convenient or realistic when you're playing on the go.The reeds fit nicely in this case, but I don't think it provides enough ventilation for the reeds to air out. I love the color, and I'll continue to use the case, but if you aren't careful the mold will really start to build up. It could of course be in part due to the unusually humid summer we've been having here, and if it changes in the winter months I'll update my review.

I've been using this case for almost a year now and it has kept my reeds mold free and protected. I would recommend this case to any beginner or student who cannot afford a moistened protection case.

Fantastic case, no mold issues if you blow the reed out backwards, wipe it off, and let the case dry out open on your desk. Works great for a professional bassoonist. Solid, secure, sleek, prime delivery. Best reed cases I’ve ever had.

Pretty good at holding reeds in place, but mine feel from my stand and my reeds went everywhere, despite it not being that high up. Not very impressed, but would still buy if you need to stay organized

The reed case is built well and cushions the reeds with enough room. The hard case is nice. There should be more holes for air flow to dry the reeds out when in the case without having to keep it open until they dry.
