Maisy Plays Soccer: A Maisy First Experiences Book

Perfect for introducing soccer to a toddler
My 3 year old's first day of soccer lessons didn't go well at all. Although she loved to watch it on TV and kick the ball around at home, I think seeing the coach and other kids playing, running, and cheering overwhelmed her to the point where she just cried and wouldn't participate. Afterward she exclaimed she no longer liked soccer. That evening as I was researching books on toddler feelings, fears, etc., I came across this wonderful book. In a cute and fun way, the story introduces the sport and sportsmanship and helps little ones see what soccer is like in real life; e.g., playing with kids/team mates, taking turns, cheering, etc. After the first read, my daughter exclaimed she still didn't like soccer but yet she requested I read the book again over the next several days. When the next soccer lesson came around we discussed what would happened and made comparisons to the story. It worked! My daughter participated in and enjoyed her soccer lessons so much that she's now on her second 6 week session! I may be giving the book too much credit, but it really seemed to help a lot. I wish I had bought the book before the first lesson. I have plans to buy more books from the Maisy series... especially, the one about preschool! I'll be sure to get it before school starts in the fall! 🙂

My 2 year old has been enjoying basic Maisy books since she was 1. Now at 2 years old she absolutely loves the "Maisy First Experience" books, so we bought a few and will probably continue to do so since there are so many in the collection. My husband is a huge soccer fan, so really loves reading this one to her. The spirit of the story is about enjoying sports for the experience and not being invested in the result, which is a nice concept (even if we don't always manage to pull it off!)

As with the other Maisy Books, this one is a winner also
Great book. My 2 year old loves it, although the side conversations below the actual text are a little confusing for her age.

my five-year old still enjoyed reading the story
It's a shame there isn't a UK edition of this book, however, my five-year old still enjoyed reading the story. As with other Maisy First Experiences books, there are enough words to make the story interesting enough to read to children but also for them to practice their reading in return.

A great Maisy story
My 3 year old started playing football last year and really enjoys this book. Pity the title is soccer though as that had him confused until I changed it to football.

I am a great fan of Maisy books. All my grandchildren have loved them, and this football story is just right for my football mad 3 year old grandson.
