Mirandy and Brother Wind (Dragonfly Books)

I've probably bought every book Jerry Pinckney has ever illustrated. He has boatloads of awards with good reason.When I was raising my mixed race children in the 80s and 90s before I had access to internet, I was challenged to represent a world to them that included them. My local librarian was an ally.Pinckney's work is filled with lovely illustrations, new spins on old stories as well as original new ones. Don't miss this one.

When I was a little girl, cakewalks were still an item when the school had it's local talent show. I doubt many people know what they are these days. But that is a nice way to fill in a bit of recent history for your audience. Reading this book about how Mirandy caught the wind and won the cakewalk took me back to another time. McKissack reveals a special personality in this little girl, and weaves a Southern charm around a special time of life. Pinkney's illustrations capture the warmth of the characters. I love his work and own many children's books with his art.This story has enough magic to appeal to the very young while the dilemma of pre-teen Mirandy will be readily felt by that age group. Adults will delight in the appealing subtleties of the story.

Love this book. It was a child hood favorite that I was given by my mother and passed on to my son. It got lost in moving, so I bought him another .Great book great story, an inspiration for little boys and girls that look like him. Thank you

What can I say about Patricia McKissack--her stories flow like a poem that makes your heart sing. And Jerry Pinkney is one of the 'ol illustration masters. What's not to love? In my early days as an illustrator, I used this book as a bible on how to do everything right.

This is a beautiful book with a fun story. I saw this book years ago and fell in love with the art work. I cant wait to share it with my grandchildren at Christmas!

Wonderful book. I used for a tea and book reading event. We went over the history of dance and how it impacts our culture.
