Would give as gift...but would assemble to maintain freindship
First off, this is a wonderful sounding fountain, fairly simple to assemble and good quality. I really struggled with purchasing as many of the reviewers comments referred to it's poor quality, loud motor, short shelf life, etc. Others love it. I usually refer to the 2 & 3 star comments first on products purchased on line as I often find a lot of compelling honesty. This time I went with my gut that this would be a pleasant experience. It has been exactly so thus far! The water trickle is soothing (not too loud or nonexistent) and the slate is beautifully cut. The instructions were not the "best," but I like puzzles and though minimal in word, large on visual instruction...it worked fine and had it together in less than 30 minutes. Note: the kit did not come with the Velcro mentioned in the instructions used to anchor the slate to the fountain arm, but it is unnecessary. Next came the maiden voyage: when the pump was turned on it took a few minutes to get going (expected) and water sort of spurted out in many directions while the pump was priming. It has not done this again in 10 uses. Also the arm requires a wee bit of fidgeting to make water pressure enough to hit all holes, but it stays put afterward. The bowls are both lightweight metal, not plastic as many reviewers thought. Definitely metal. Motor is very quiet unlike the observations of many reviewers. I'll let you know as far as the longevity of the motor (another reviewer gripe and well-warranted if true as this is not a cheap product).

Disappointing. Cheap, Plastic parts.
Just got this fountain. I am disappointed. The only natural, quality part to it is the hanging stone and the handful of rock for the bottom. The rest is made of cheap plastic resin. Yuck. I think at least the bottom bowl could have been a higher quality material, but no.... plastic. For the price paid, I expected more. Bought this as a gift for a friend of mine. I may have to return it as it could be embarrassing to give this to her.UPDATE: I ended up giving it to my friend and the pump and light stopped working after only a month. We had to return the whole thing to just get the pump replaced. Thankfully I figured it would screw up and kept all the packing material and original box. I tried so hard to talk her into getting the money back from it as I am so grossed out by this fountain. But she wanted to give it another try. Of course, she has no idea how much the fountain cost. But every time I have to deal with it, it makes me angry. Getting the light through the holes just so and the pump clamped over it is frustrating. And again looking at the cheap plastic parts, ugh. Even the stone is irritating. It is only one sided! One side has some character, but the other is ugly and flat, the cut side. I'm sure we will end up returning it again soon. At least the return was very smooth, thanks to Amazon.

Works wonderfully after adjustments.
It arrived promptly and was easy to assemble. There was some pump hum which was magnified by the side table it was on. I placed a small folded towel under it and moved the dish insert a bit, and the vibration sound disappeared. After setting the pump to high, as per instruction, I had to uninstall the the rocks and turn it back to the original middle speed to lessen the water flow and associated splashing. Now, it functions wonderfully with a soothing trickling water sound, and the ceiling light show is delightful.

Best table fountain I have ever owned.
I've owned and used several table fountains over the years, in my professional office. Some have been pretty good, others were thrown out after a short period of use.I've been using this fountain for a couple of days now. It's bigger than most table fountains, about right for a small office. It's not noisy, it doesn't leak. It's made of cheap and flimsy materials, particularly the base and bowl -- they look like copper, though they are actually light-weight copper-colored plastic, but I guess they are strong enough. Most importantly, it looks pretty good. This is the best small table fountain I have owned, the best I could hope to find. It's more expensive than the average small table fountain, but there's no point in owning and displaying a cheap fountain if it looks tacky.

Make sure you ask the seller about the pump quality before buying this unit.
The product came defective. Pump didn't work properly and made the unit so loud it defeated the purpose of a calming effect. I called the company to replace the pump and I was told that I would have to call the manufacturer in order to get a new pump but their recommendation was to place a scotch brite pad under the pump to stop the vibration. The other problem with this unit is in order to change the water flow speed, you have to change it in the pump itself underneath the fountain. So be sure to get it right before you get the rocks and slate situated. For $110.00 fountain, I expect everything to work right out of the box and do what the product says. Thus the reason for the 1 star. The piece of slate was nice (but the adhesive wasn't even placed properly where it connects to the unit).

We love this fountain...glad we ignored some negative reviews
I had read negative reviews and almost didn't buy this fountain. I was very pleasantly surprised...the negative comments did not apply to the fountain that I received. The fountain is beautiful, was painted brown but looked like copper (it would be much more expensive if it was copper), had a working on-off switch, did not splash and was easy to assemble (and I hate complicated directions). There was only one part that was missing, although seemingly insignificant: a Velcro loop that was to be slipped under the leather strap that holds the round slate. I guessed that this Velcro loop was to prevent slipping of the round slate...but we never move the fountain and nothing seems to ever slip. My wife and I placed our fountain in the perfect spot of our newly renovated kitchen.
