Dancing with Dragons: Invoke Their Ageless Wisdom & Power

Learned so much
Well written. I have read only a little and have learned so much. Techniques I want to try and projects to do. Now I have an idea how to make a staff. I do believe a wooden dowel at home depot will soon have my name on it in dragon script.

A treasure, so far inlove with this book!
The media could not be loaded. Â DANCING WITH DRAGONS: Invoke Their Ageless Wisdom & PowerBy: D.J. ConwayI was skeptical on purchasing this book. Honestly I wasn't sure which one to go for since the author has a couple out that has to do with dragon magic. This starts you from the ground up, very detailed and informative so far. (I'm on page 57) and the first night I got it I couldn't put it down. Many illustrations and alchemic based imagery, I have a feeling this book will be a treasure for years to come. Wish it came in hardcover, but thats a miner thing really. My version says first edition! An extra treat for me! If you were skeptical like me and not sure, let me set your mind at ease. If you are open to the teachings of dragon myth, lore, and imagination... if you are ready to embark down the magic path where dragons tread, Let this book be your guide!

Dragons as Power Animals
"Dancing with Dragons" was a decent read. I purchased it for background info on the dragon mythos. For that purpose, I was satisfied with my purchase!Overall, I feel that Conway did an excellent job of 3 things, 2 of them positive, 1 negative:1. Describing the history/legend/mythos of dragons, using historical documents, pictures of artifacts, and other very interesting tidbits to pull in all cultures to the dragons' influences. Through this book's presentation of information, my interest in draconic literature and mythos expanded.2. Detailing premiere magicians' rites and rituals through the eyes of someone with the Dragon as their Power Animal/ Familiar/ co-magician. The title "Dancing with Dragons" is indicative of this, and as HER purpose, she excels at it. She covers the following from a pro-Dragon position:A. Ritual tools/practicesB. Basic rituals (blessing, evoking, protection)C. Elemental connectionsD. Geo-magickal correspondences (Earth forms)E. Weather correspondencesF. Astro-magickal correspondances (zodiac/ planets)G. Herbs/oils/stones/candles/scriptsTo reiterate, this is an excellent guide for the Dragon-as-Power-Animal enthusiast.3. The third thing she does well is NOT a credit: she shares her mistrust and hatred of Christianity through a myopic bent. She lays her opinions of Christian influence down as fact, or worse, conclusion. As an amateur philosopher (I have no doctorate) and trained scientific observer (I do have degrees toward this, though), this was easy to pick up on, and it rubbed me wrong, even though I am not a member of the "fundamentalist Right". If she had but remained editorially aloof in this regard, I would have given the book 5 stars. For some of her content, though, this was a SEVERE detractor.Overall, the book accomplished what it purports. 4 stars!

Lots of info and very good research went into it.
First off, I loved the amount of research that went into the mythologies behind the Dragon. There were some things I did not know beforehand that I found intriguing.Next, some of the author's own perceptions were clearly communicated. I understand that there are many very dogmatic types who would disagree with the opinions and presentations made by the author, but we still live in a country where opinions are allowed to be different.Next, some of the drawings and artwork really piqued my interest in the artistic side of dragon mythology. Some of the more classic images really lend themselves to depicting the thoughts of the peoples of those times and cultures about dragons and other mysterious happenings.Next, the data tables and other information in the appendices were very well-presented and well-formatted. Some of these data tables I have found very useful for some of my own practices. The general presentation was done very well and also well-organized.Though I am not much into some of the more dogmatic parts of the book, I did find it all presented well and respect the author's own views to working with dragons and things of dragonic nature.I DO recommend this book for those who have an interest in dragons and working with the archetypal aspects of dragons. Though some may find the presentation here to be a little cartoonish, the world of magic and "The Craft" is one that requires the use of imagination and using to begin the process of self-change and realization. For an oldie, it is still a GOODIE!

Not Completely On Topic
I love working with Dragons, and it wasn't until recently that i learned that there was a magickal tradition that did so. Due to that discovery, I was excited about this book.A lot of people were complaining that Conway doesn't include this or that, but I can tell that they haven't read much of the book at all. However, I would agree that she is not the most accurately written author. But the real reason that I am not completely satisfied with this book is because she doesn't stay on topic. Instead, especially towards the end of the book, she delves into astrology, stones, herbs, and oils. All things that magicians should already know about. And in these sections she barely if at all relates them to dragons. The parts of the book that are about dragons (which is approximately 2/3 of the book) are interesting. I found that through my experiences prior to reading this book were not far from some of her descriptions.Overall, I would recommend taking this book with a grain of salt. The best way to learn about dragons is to contact them directly. I suppose the author might have held back some of that information to protect/respect them. Anyway, I don't know if I would recommend this book, but it's certainly an interesting read.

Only for Wiccans
Too much dragon lore and too little practial magick for my taste. I was looking more for a workbook on dragon energy and how to work with it. If you're a Wiccan you'll probably really enjoy the rituals in this book. They're a bit too ceremonial for me. I have had contact with dragons without all that rigmarole. Also, IMO, Air should be Swords and Wands is Fire. DJ's traditional Wiccan reversal of this threw me and made the rituals I might have otherwise been tempted to try useless to me. Not that I can't adapt them but this author and I just weren't singing from the same hymn sheet.

Dragon wisdom
Dragon wisdom in one interesting book .However did find that this author seems to be quite caught up on repeating the fact that she was programmed not to believe in Dragons, which does get a bit annoying at times, apart from this its a brilliant book if your interested in dragons particularly if you wish to use them in your magic workings.
