The Twelve Gifts of Birth (Twelve Gifts Series, 1)

I found this book about 15 years ago. I gift it to every new parent in my life. Just a beautiful book sharing the gifts of what each child is born with. Very thought provoking and empowering.

This book is at the top of my list of 10 books that every human should read whether or not, they have children. I don’t really consider the 12 Gifts to be a children’s book - this is a story that every human needs to hear and take in. This is really a story about humanity, and what is inside every single one of us. Charlene has given us a tool to heal ourselves and each other. Her book and the entire series represent, hope, light, and love. This book is my favorite birthday gift for children of all ages, especially those who are celebrating big milestones at 50, 60, 70, and beyond. I think we all need to be reminded about these gifts, and focus on what is good, even in those moments when life is hard. Read this book. Treasure this book. Give this book to all of your friends.

I received this book and read it to my grandson. While I had to define some terms for him, he paid attention so I call this experience a success!I will have a new niece and nephew this year, so i bought a total of 3 books.A teacher had originally recommended it to me.

This is a beautiful book with heartfelt messages. It’s a perfect gift for new parents for their new baby—especially a first born.

I am an 8th grade teacher, and I use this book at the beginning of the school year to teach students that we all have Twelve Gifts of Birth. After reading and discussing it, my students then make their own picture books that explain how the twelve gifts are represented in their own lives so each page has one of the gifts, a picture, and a short written explanation if how they see that gift in their own lives. At the end of their book, they must also include the gift they think is uniquely their own. When finished, students read theirs aloud to the class, and we keep them in the room on display. It's a great "Getting to Know You" activity with real-world authentic writing. Everything about this book is wonderful for children young and old. Not only does it have a wonderful message but Wendy Ackison's art work is stunning!

Ostensibly for children (yet with a message for everyone who has ever been a child, and for all who still honor that inner child), I have given this book mostly to teens, for "coming of age" sort of gifts [@ quinceneras, sweet sixteen gifts, bat mitzvas, etc]. It is a sweet and affirming reminder of the strengths of character we are all born with the potential for, that we can all possess, if they are valued & nurtured. The simple text & subdued pictures gently convey the message that we are capable of continuing to nurture these strengths, if we will recognize & honor them, in ourselves and others, and in our everyday life.Its opening pages, with its reference to fairy tale princess-type settings, has more appeal to girls than boys; I wish there was a more boy-friendly version, altho' for younger children this is not problematic, as it begins in much the same way as many fantasy stories that appeal to all. In the remainder of the book the photos include both boys & girls, with a nod to diversity. It is a book one wishes could be read to all children from birth on, so they would internalize their intrinsic value well before they become self-conscious teens! Includes a message to find the combination of gifts that are uniquely one's own.

Got this book for my nieces baptism. Saw it in store and thought it was adorable and so fitting for the occasion. Was fairly expensive in store so I thought I’d check Amazon, it was almost $10 cheaper! Great purchase

Lovely gift for a baby

I ordered this item because I had already fallen in love with it when I read someone elses copy. However, I am very disappointed that mine has not yet arrived. When I try tracking it, it says it is on its way, but it is long overdue now and I am not pleased with this order at all.

I love this book... makes a great baby gift.

My mom bought this for me after the birth of my son and now I buy this for all my friends when they have babies. This is a beautiful book to have around to remind you of what a truly wonderful gift your special little baby is. I love the idea of the mom who gave this as a graduation gift to her son filled with pictures of him. I also reccomend 100 promises to my baby by mallika chopra.
