Very inspirational with sarcasm and a hip-hop flare
Unlearn:101 Simple Truths for a Better Life by Humble the Poet was the July personal growth read selection for my book club. I became aware of this book from my husband. He was listening to the Breakfast Club one day about a month or so back. He pulled up the interview on YouTube and I immediately added his book to my tbr list. As I continue on my personal growth journey, I knew I would enjoy this book. This was confirmed!Brief synopsis isn't really needed as the title basically tells what's in store. I compare this book to my first personal growth read this year, The Power of the Subconscious Mind, but from my generation's thought pattern accompanied with sarcasm (which is sooooo me...lol) and a bit of a hip-hop flare. I haven't listened to any of his music, I may need to after reading this book. One thing I will say is sometimes Humble takes the less popular viewpoint, but when you open your mind to consider his thoughts you may find some clarity in your life. He claims to be no expert. He sets out to share thoughts he's had as he lives life with the hope of helping those who think they're alone on how they think and feel. That alone is the most powerful concept of the book, to just help even if it's only one person. This one here is kind of hard to really pinpoint what spoke to my soul. Of the 101 truths, I took something from every last one of them. Regardless if I thought of me personally or someone I love, every last truth spoke to me. That would make this quite a long review so I won't do that to you all. I will; however, share the numbers of the truths I highlighted to revisit probably multiple times as I continue on my current path: 4, 7, 9, 14, 20, 24, 28, 29, 30, 32, 37, 39, 44, 46, 47, 50, 53, 59, 63, 67, 71, 72, 79, and 97. In the end, the 101st truth is for you personally, or myself to write. After reading this book, I again reaffirm my commitment to personal growth. I learned of an acronym while reading another book this year and I use it often WAIT....I won't give the details of the acronym, you may know it already. I'm sure the full details will be revealed in that book's review. My final sentiment on this book is to focus on self, addressing feelings, embracing obstacles, and making the best of everyday I have on this side.Tracey RobinsonWords For The Soul Book Club

Truly excellent and really original/deeply meaningful way of framing common life wisdom.
Yes, at face value you have probably heard most of this "advice" in one iteration or another. Since starting therapy, I've gone down the rabbit hole of self-help books. This book is different. It's like all of this world wisdom that has been floating around for years came to roost as I was reading this particular way of looking at things. I've been through some heavy years and a lot of self-help style literature doesn't quite understand true suffering and ends up feeling trite or even infuriating. Not this book. The elements of tough love in this one are just written with such an honest look at how things really are, that they become helpful. Good job. Great writing. Thankful for this work.

Brutally, Marvellously Honest.
From the introduction to the last page, this book is a masterpiece. To start, it is so well written - easy to read, and yet each and every sentence is just beautiful. There’s so much personal voice present, which makes it so genuine. It’s more than just words on a page. It’s art. Not to mention, you can tell that much thought, care, and love went into every single word. And the message. The sheer wisdom and insight that Humble shows, in a way that is so simple and authentic - what can I even say? It’s enlightening, eye opening, and inspiring. Not because it’s supoosed to be or because he’s trying to provoke those sentiments in readers, but because of the raw honestly about life. Humble fully embraces the fact that he isn’t perfect, that he doesn’t know everything, because no one knows everything, and I truly appreciate that. The message is too, just as much as the physical aspects, a work of art. A beautiful, honest, masterpiece.

Pick up this book and Unlearn the scripts you've memorized.
I found Humble The Poet on Instagram when Diljit Dosanjh tagged him in a post. So glad I did! I ordered this book as a result, and recommend you do the same. I read it cover to cover when I received it...and it's one of those books I know I will reference again and again when I need to be uplifted or get back on track. The book is straight forward advice, the kind you need from a friend that has your best interests in mind and sees through your bs. The advice is amazingly simple, but that speaks to just how much we all try to overcomplicate things with excuses and flawed logic. The book challenges you to be your best self by pushing aside the hard mentality or the way you think things "should" be. Pick up this book and Unlearn the scripts you've memorized.
