This is the first book DGS reaches for when we sit down together to read books. Some evenings he wants a second read through - one time we read it three times.

Big. bold illustrations will grab the youngster's attention and when it is time to make the sound the animal does the child can do so with gusto. Story time gold
Say Hello Like This! is a must have for any story time collection, or for any parent wanting to give their child a wonderful introduction to animal sounds and also a unique collection of adjectives. "A dog hello is licky and loud..." is just one example of the charming introductions each animal receives before we are then treated to their noise. Six different animals are featured in the story, from the usual dog and cat to the more unique beetle: "A beetle hello is tiny and tappy..." The endpapers feature even more animals making noise, and the book ends with an invitation for story listeners to make their own raucous "hellos".The book is well designed, featuring large, kid-friendly flaps for each animal to reveal his sound. The illustrations are simple and charming with bright colors, varying fonts and just enough details to convey some high-energy fun. I have been a Mary Murphy fan for a long time, because as a story time leader, she makes my job so much easier! I think this may be her best one yet and is a grateful and enthusiastic recommend.

I love Mary Murphy!
I've loved Mary Murphy ever since I found "I Like it When" and read it over and over to my infant son. This one would be perfect for a toddler storytime--or even a Baby Time. Lot's of opportunity to make fun sounds and noises as the animals say hi to each other. In thinking of all the preschoolers I visit, I think that this may be a bit simple for them--which is too bad because they would love all the funny sounds! This would be great to share one on one with the young child in your life!Good ECRR-talk book!
