High definition ultrawide, swoon!
I admit, I gambled a bit on this one, as all of the reviews and videos seem to cite several problems with this display. Fortunately, I haven't experienced any of the ones I've read about! This is my first ultrawide monitor so some of this review may reflect that. First, I love the size. 34" is just wide enough to fit plenty of windows while not being problematic with being flat instead of curved. I have the scaling set in macOS to look like 3360x1417 and can comfortably fit three browser windows without it being weird. The resolution makes text just as sharp at the 5K Planar monitor I was coming from. I haven't noticed any negative impact from the anti-glare coating, which was a huge problem with my Dell 4K monitors. Colors are, of course, beautiful before and after calibrating. Hardware calibration is a plus and their calibration software was very easy to use. The speakers are pretty surprising. Before this monitor I had been using my 2018 Macbook Pro's speakers in clamshell mode. Needless to say, that sounded pretty bad. The speakers in this monitor sound slightly better than that. One downside is that volume control doesn't work from the OS, but you can work around this by controlling the volume through EDID with software. I haven't noticed any image retention, wake from sleep works fine, macOS 10.14.5 recognized it without problems, no random blackouts, no dead or stuck pixels. All of the negatives I'd read before are thankfully not happening here. I'll note that this particular monitor was manufactured in March of 2019 and their software says the firmware (I assume?) is version (3.02, 2.14). It's possible there was a bad batch or a firmware update, not sure, but so far so good! Now, it all isn't roses and sunshine! I did experience a problem. While plugging in with the Thunderbolt 3 cable worked fine, using DisplayPort with an eGPU was less fine in macOS. Without going into too much detail (though I could if it would help someone), a simply plist override in macOS will make the OS detect the correct resolution through DisplayPort and everything works perfectly.

Last 3 months, it's 2 months at warranty service and they did body damage to it
More Customer Service updates: LG said that they will fix and send back the monitor, but they don’t know when, and since they drop the monitor and have body damage now, it will be send with aesthetic unpleasant look, because their policy doesn’t cover that, and there is no refund for it. Oh boy it’s impossible to hate more a company than I’m right now after hearing that. That’s a complete disregard to consumer rights! This company is the worse! DO NOT BUY! The monitor get some panel problem in 3 months of use, then went to warranty repair, came back after a month totally broken with signs of drop by the side and front glass trashed. I send back in the next day and it's being another month without no sign, no email, no calls from LG nothing. I already bought a replacement and I want my money back, therefore LG support simply stop answering my messages, they don't refund, neither sent the fixed monitor back. Avoid this headache, don't buy it! Original review: I bought my about 3 months ago, I've already contacted LG for support, they will send a box to my address and I'll need to ship it to get it fixed. A day before 3 months with this monitor it start a weird behavior, suddenly the USB-C stop working as display, it still chargers my MacBook Pro, but it doesn't recognized it as a connected display anymore. Then I added the DisplayPort cable, it worked, and I noticed many horizontal lines in the screen (see the pic) it goes all the way like that. My first though is that could be cable or something else, so I disconnected everything and restarted the monitor, in the settings menu of the monitor I can see that horizontal lines, well, it's not because of anything connected, the monitor simply is gone. Very annoying to need to do the support process to get it fixed, but the hard part is that I use it professionally and I can't stay without a secondary monitor, then I'll need to buy another replacement while this is being fixed. --- UPDATE 2020-01-06 --- After about 20 days waiting, they've sent the monitor back. As you can see in the pictures, there is one with the dead pixels screen, then two pictures showing the perfect state that I send the monitor in the box, and the last picture is how I turned on once it came from the service. Clearly the monitor was damage either by the service or by the UPS transportation. Despite the FRAGILE stickers all around the box, once I turned on, that broken image was everything that lasted from this screen. Also LG support system is so broken that it doesn't store the apartment number, so the guy from the UPS went all the way to talk with the manager to find my apartment, that was added to the ticket, online and by phone. I'm waiting they send the new label to send it back and hopefully they will send me a working unit, therefore I have not much expectations for that, probably I will need to go to Apple and buy their new monitor since LG might take too long and I need it to work. Unfortunately I can't recommend, specially because of the poor durability and abismal lack of support from LG.

Top Quality Monitor With Great Picture Quality
I use this for working from home, and it was an excellent choice. Large screen space lets me work on multiple applications at once. It's not quite the screen space I have with two 27" monitors at work, but it is enough space for working in town applications at once as long as you don't have something like a really wide spreadsheet open. I have a Macbook Pro 15" from 2017 and it has worked perfectly since I purchased it a couple months ago. I use the provided usb-c cord (which LG direct you to use) and there have been no issues. It keeps the MacBook charged while plugged into the monitor. The colors are bright and the picture is extremely sharp. It has a matte finish and good brightness, so glare is not a problem if you have a desk lamp. It is quite easy to setup out of the box and it comes with all the necessary cables to get started. The one issue I have is that it does not let me use my volume wheel on my keyboard to adjust the monitor's volume, rather I have to use the button on the monitor itself to raise or lower the volume. A small annoyance.

Doesn't work well without it's specific thunderbolt cable??
**UPDATE: This monitor is not fantastic. It is SUPER FINICKY. It has a LOT of trouble consistently going into 5k. Let me explain. I'm using a 2021 mbp with it and every morning i wake my computer up i have to plug-in and replug the thunderbolt cable to my computer to get this thing to actually register the cable can support 5k. Usually it defers to the 3440 x 1440 which is fuzzy and stinks (i use the monitor for graphic design). At first I thought it was just because i was using an after market cable, but now im using the exact right thunderbolt cable from LG and it's having the same issues. My main work-around when it simply will NOT plug in and switch to 5k is to restart my computer and unplug the entire monitor for a few seconds. And even that is inconsistent. 2 stars because LG was cool and sent me the right cable and because the monitor is fantastic when it's working properly. Also the speakers are so bad on this thing, why even include them? (They're also the kind that wont let you adjust the volume from your keyboard lol zzz). I think this monitor is just starting to show it's age. Imo look elsewhere, because this thing is not worth the high price tag. old review: Monitor is fantastic. Bought it lightly used. The box didn't come with it's original thunderbolt cable. I thought "that's super annoying, but no big deal i'll just get another one from amazon." Did that. New cable works!... and then it doesn't sometimes? When i wake up my mbp (2021 a1 max) my computer flips on no issue, but the monitor "doesn't detect a signal" despite the fact that my mbp is charging through the tb cable and my new camera (plugged into the lg display) is also getting power. So far the solve with the aftermarket tb cable has been to RESTART MY WHOLE COMPUTER to get it to detect. This is absolute BS. Please send me the correct, VERY SPECIFIC thunderbolt cable LG. This is downright SILLY.

Over great monitor, more like ultrawide 4K than 5K
Really great display for productivity. It’s more like ultrawide 4K than true 5k though, but I knew that going into it. You can toggle between usb-c and usb-b for usb upstream, it’s not too hard to manage a few different computers connected to this. For gaming it will depend on the type of game. For competitive FPS I don’t recommend it due to the 60hz refresh rate, but for casual gaming it’s fine. The base of the stand is metal while the stand itself is a plastic that is the same color as the metal base. It looks fine but it feels a little cheap for a monitor at this price point. The stand is sturdy enough and I don’t really notice much wobble while typing. Overall I’d recommend it to anyone looking for crisp text looking to boost productivity.

LG 34" works well with MBP 15"
Despite what I'd read before, I went ahead with my purchase of the monitor. To my happiness, this was pretty much a plug-and-play experience. Using the provided Thunderbolt cable from my MBP into the monitor, and it was all magic. I basically now use the back of the monitor as my dock, and run keyboard etc out the back. What I haven't figured out yet is if I can daisy-chain another monitor out of this one so that I have one-plug does it all into my MBP. Monitor quality is high - the video quality is stunning. Colors need to be adjusted, because white balance goes a little crazy if you defer to an assigned setting. Still, it's great. The build is so-so, as others have mentioned. Plastic case (fine by me, as it's merely the edge around which the image lies) and heavy monitor rest on a thin, ever-so-steady balancing act of a silver metal stand. It works, but this wide monitor wobbles every time you touch the hidden button on the bottom, or sneeze, or move the keyboard.

Works with 2018 MacBook Pro 15 inch i9 Radeon Pro 560X Mojave 10.14.3 -- Updated
Updated: This monitor doesn’t work well with Catalina. Terrible resolution and currently no fix from Apple or LG I can confirm that the LG 34" 5k/2k works via USB-C (Thunderbolt 3) with 2018 MacBook Pro 15" on Mojave. There have been a bunch of posts about compatibility issues; since it is working for me I'm assuming the latest Mojave patch has fixed the compatibility issues. I'll circle back in a few weeks to give a more comprehensive review, but it definitely works and first impressions are good. Updated -- Been using the LG 5k2k for about a week now, and still think this is a 5 star monitor. The resolution is high enough to give you the same feel of a Retina display. I'm running this using the sRGB mode on the monitor with the Apple RGB Display profile, and color matching with the MacBook Pro's Retina display is very close (see 2nd photo). I'm using a 3360x1417 display resolution, which is a good balance for me of screen space and resolution. Monitor's features are impressive and useful. The ambient light sensor on top of the monitor is great as it automatically adjusts display brightness throughout the day to account for changing conditions. Night Shift is supported, which I like for the same reason I use on my Mac. I still have had zero issues with the the MacBook Pro's "handshake" with the monitor via the included USB-C/Thunderbolt-3 cable (actually a nice cable that retails for about $65). My Mac is receiving 85w of power, and the USB-C connection also enables use of the USB ports on the back of the monitor. I'm not using the Monitor's speakers, so I can't speak to that functionality. The monitor is wide enough that I can have 3 windows open that are actually big enough to be functional (I'm using Magnet for my window arrangement, although the monitor comes with its own software for that same purpose). IMO the color matching is really what makes this monitor stand out. I've owned Dell (Dell U2713HM 27-Inch Screen), ASUS (ASUS 32 " 4K Ultra HD ProArt Professional Monitor [PA328Q] IPS), ACER, and now LG. The other monitors had markedly different color, and even with constant fiddling it was difficult to get close to the Retina display. Having both be essentially the same helps with video and photo editing. Mounting with my HumanCentric XT-Series Display Mounting Arm has worked great. This monitor is actually relatively light for its size, so I've had no issues adjusting it or getting a stable mount. Like the fact that the back of this monitor is white, which blends better in my work environment. Overall great monitor for MacBook Pro. Glad that the "handshake" issues have been resolved.

Thunderbolt 5K controller failed 6 months in.
this monitor broke - the 5K Thunderbolt adapter stopped recognizing my Mac -- reading I'm showing says the Thunderbolt controller failed ... so I had to switch to 4K and HDMI only input.

Good monitor, plug and play with Macs
The monitor is expensive, but fully loaded for what you get assuming you have the right device to drive it. I’m unfamiliar with Windows, but natively on my newer Thunderbolt 3 MBPs everything worked out of the box with no issues on the resolution. Scaled perfectly, and a true ultra wide 4K monitor (33% wider, at 200% scaling compared to a 27” 4K display) which is exactly what I was looking for. Because the monitor is straight and ultra wide, the edges look a bit far. Quality and design of the monitor is top notch. The stand is made of metal. As is the bottom of the height adjustable stand post. Top has a plastic cover, and the back is a nice matte white. I wish the cable connectors were a bit hidden, because the way my desk is positioned you can see the back of the monitor. Small design complaint. Front of the monitor is beautiful, no buttons or markings. The top, and the side bezels are similar thickness, the bottom is slightly thicker (1-2mm). The one button/joystick control is intuitive and easy to use. The monitor is not cheap though, you can purchase 3-4 27” 4K monitors with USB-C connectors for the price. It’s more than the LG ultrafine 5k for Apple displays. But if you’re looking for a single display solution, in a well built single cable connection package, this is a good choice to shortlist.

Dream Monitor for Filmmakers
5K resolution and ultra-wide aspect ratio give me all the screen real estate I need for editing and multitasking, especially in DaVinci Resolve. It works seamlessly with my Mac Pro via Thunderbolt 3, and the color accuracy (DCI-P3 98%) is outstanding for color grading. The build quality feels premium with its metal stand and sleek matte-white finish. I did notice some mild image retention after long, high-brightness sessions, but lowering contrast and using a white screen saver cleared it up. Overall, it’s an expensive monitor, but it’s delivered exactly what I needed for my workflow.

Works well on powerful enough hardware!
I was looking for a 4k resolution in an ultrawide format, so I chose this over the other 5k2k options; the first machine I plugged into it would only give 5120x2160 @ 30hz (intel 10th gen nuc), which is not usable. I then tried a gaming pc and it chose 60hz immediately, and I've been enjoying it since. The lateral stability of the stand is horrible. It just bounces like a cheap samsung monitor; probably using the same design under the plastic. The vesa mount is sunken and not compatible with all mounts - a tabletop sign mount I was using for a larger screen wasn't compatible with this monitor.

Crisp and wide
Text is smooth like an 2160p monitor. Unboxed, enabled DP1.4 and DCI-P3 modes, and plugged it into a M1 Mac Studio using the T3 cable and all resolutions are available. Uniformity test looks good. Everything I’ve worked on so far including hdr has looked very uniform.

An almost perfect monitor except for one thing
Image burn-in. Yes, it exists. Do not hope for newer patch to fix this issue. Mine is manufactured in Nov. 2022 and the burn-in's still there. It's nothing serious though, I can see the retention only when I push the brightness and contrast to 100% and leave my DaVinci Resolve opened for several hours. Once it's there you don't get rid of it easily. I also discovered that only certain grey colours would be effected. My solution is to lower the contrast to around 80% and use pure white as screen saver, after several days the retention would be gone. I wish there's a true 5K ultra wide for the 34" model but that would boost the resolution to 6720X2880 and might be called a 6K or 7K monitor instead. This is an ultra wide 4K, and it's probably the best ultra wide 4K you can get in the market.
