Motion and Time Study: Design and Measurement of Work

Geek-out for manufacturing students
This book was recommended by a professional in my industry: sewn products manufacturing. Although the studies in this book are not sewing specific, it is very interesting and useful for anyone trying to better understand how to organize a factory floor for increased ergonomics, flow, etc. This book was at my bedside table for months and I really enjoyed learning about how to collect the right kind of data to make smart decisions about materials handling, quality inspections, and how to compile useful process charts. This book also gives studies of attempts to improve quality of life for factory workers: ergonomics, wage incentives, improved training, and motivation.Really great book to geek-out with if you're into improving manufacturing at your shop, regardless of what you manufacture! Warning: I really love this book and find it to be a valuable tool, but many of the people I have shared it with find it a pretty boring read with lots of diagrams, drawings, and data. There is a lot of information here and, although I find it very well-organized, if you're not into reading research/technical papers or other works of non-fiction this may not be so delightful for you!
