Maurice's Southern Gold BBQ Sauce, Original 18 oz (Pack of 3)

Still the best commercial mustard based.
I grew up in Columbia, SC which is the area mustard based sauce originated as far as I know. I grew up with either Piggy Park mustard based or South Carolina Low Country vinegar based. Two entirely different tastes and cooking methods. Almost every mustard based sauce I've tried in restaurants and commercially in jars seems to want to combine these two into something that is far too harshly vinegary. The original mustard based sauce was mostly sweet/savory very similar to honey mustard with a little more complexity and no harshness or heat. Maurice Bessingers Southern Gold is still the best I've found. I understand the history of the original owner taints this for many. This is tasty on many things but was really made for plain pulled pork.

Truely Southern GOLD!
I always give things I eat and don't like a second try, Like Hot Boiled Peanuts. The first time I had them I HATED them. Mushy... Salty... But I tried them again and buy them from the guy who puts his little stand up every weekend or if we can find raw peanuts (not as easy as you think it would be in Georgia) I make them myself. There didn't have to be a second try for this sauce! My husband grew up on Maurice's Piggy Park restaurants. When we moved to Florida and eventually to North Georgia it was extremely dufficult to find for a long time. We have been so happy we can order it here. I am not much of a Mustard Base BBQ person, having grown up in Northern Michigan, but I Love me some Maurice's Southern Gold Piggy Park (sauce)! 😂

Could be the perfect mustard BBQ sauce
Fell in love with this barbecue sauce 20 years ago and the flavor hasn’t missed a beat in all those years. If you wanna make some epic barbecue chicken on the grill, using this sauce will make everyone happy you did. Also, a great sauce to have around when you order barbecue from your favorite takeoutlace that may have fantastic food but mediocre to awful sauces.

I detest sickly sweet sauces on meats
I detest sickly sweet sauces on meats, plus I'm diabetic and don't want to waste my carb allotment on meat sauces. Maurice's Southern Gold is FANTASTIC! It has plenty of flavor with just the right balance of mustard, vinegar, salt and other favors with a mere hint of sweet. So far, I've only tried it on chicken. I ordered about six different kinds of non-sweet sauces/marinades and Marice's wins hands down. I'm bad about putting meat in marinade and then not cooking it for a day or two. Sometimes this can result in overly salty or hot meat. It's no problem with Marice's. I'm ordering more! Let the grilling continue!

This is some good sauce
Alright, I am kind if biased when it comes to this sauce. I love the taste if the stuff. It is a mustard based bbq sauce. I dont like mustard, but I love this stuff. I use it mixed with brown sugar to glaze my hams. The hams come out delicioso. Anyway, if you want to try it, I suggest buying one first. If you love the stuff, this came quick, it arrived safe and secure, and tastes like what it is supposed to.

Love it, though probably not for everyone
Anyone who has lived in South Carolina, especially Columbia within the last 10 years will no doubt have heard, or better still have enjoyed Maurices's Gold BBQ, either on it's own as it is here, or in one of Maurices's own restaurants in the city. His sauce was legendary, but then became rare when it was pulled from a lot of stores including Wal-Mart when he made some offensive remarks on a local radio station, now the sauce is hard to find outside SC, and is expensive, even here on Amazon.Lovers of traditional BBQ sauce may find it a little different, it's vinegar and mustard based, so it's considerably more tart than the thick, and sweet regular BBQ sauces, it's also a little runnier, so pour slowly. The blend of mustard and vinegar though not to everyone's taste is great however, especially on pulled pork, or brisket, I actually use it to slow cook meatballs.Just remember it's is strong in flavor, so don't be worried about diluting, or even mixing in a little regular BBQ or even ketchup if you wish.Once you taste it, and if you like it, you will come back for more without question.Maurices's, isn't of course the ONLY Carolina style BBQ sauce available, but in my opinion it's one of the best.
