The World Of Charles Addams Hardcover – November 2, 1991

Amazing book with vast collection of Charles Addams work. Very funny, in a dark way.

My daughter is a huge Chas Addams fan since she was a child…we got her an Addams Family book when she was about 3 years old and she remembers the pictures…last Christmas I gave her a book “Evilution” but it didn’t have a picture she was looking for that she remembers from when she was little…this year I’ve found more books but none had the picture she was looking for…finally, when I received this one, low and behold, there is was…the picture she remembered. I can’t wait for her to open it for Christmas this year.

I had a copy of this but misplaced it (maybe in a graveyard?). I had to get another copy. This book, to me, is a very good collection of the whole of the master's work. Did I say that right, master? I am a good boy. I just enjoy it and his humor very much.

Could be more please with this purchase. Came early and expertly packed. Shop easy with these folks.

SO funny and SO clever. If you don't know the original cartoons that sparked the TV series and movies, you should read this. I love having it in the living room and watching guests open it up. They always laugh!

Close your eyes and try to imagine what the person who came up with the Addams Family looks like. Then look at the back cover of this book and see the kindly, twinkly-eyed person who's looking back at you and wonder which part of his brain went a little bit (but wonderfully) haywire to come up with such delights as the Addams Family standing on the roof to pour hot oil over Christmas carollers below (one of the most famous Charles Addams cartoons, and with good reason). Each and every one of the several hundred cartoons in this collection is a gem, even if you have to look hard for the punch line in some of them (and if some of them are there just for the beauty of the thing), and anyone who has kept up with cartoons in the New Yorker or anywhere else will find lots of panels that will bring back a memory or two. This collection is a priceless tribute to one of the true greats of the cartooning world.

As usual for comics, I resort to simple bullet points* This title includes 300 comics and 24 New Yorker covers in very large format.* Print quality and reproduction is good; the 24 covers are color and sprinkled periodically through the book* All these comics demonstrate Addams' grim and delightful wit* It is important to note, however, that while the Addams family is pictured on the cover, they only comprise about 10% of the total comics. So do not be fooled into thinking this is at all focused on this one particular family unit. This is a broad survey of Addams' work not one centered on that family we all know so well.

I'm a big lover of the Addams Family... Still I'm not sure if Addams did any books just focused on the beloved, creepy family, or if all his books are a hodge-podge. I'm collecting a few of them here and there, giving my reviews when possible. I've also been back and forth to the library... I would have to say this book might be the one which offers the most comprehensive collection on Addams' work, including Addams Family. It's a big, fat book!And this is just a fun book to own, especially if you like to laugh or are an artist. You will get countless hours of entertainment in the cartoons here, which are really quite simple depictions of the macabre. Somehow, I imagine this book as being the one I'd take to the hospital for an overnight stay. (You could appreciate it even more on an IV drip...)
