Wing Chun Strategy and Tactics: Attack, Attack, Attack

Excellent Wing Chun (Ip Man lineage) reference book
I bought this book from Amazon.com about 3 months ago. It serves as a great reference book for me. The things I was looking for were:1. Sil Lim Tao form (make sure you know your lineage as the form may differ quick a bit - defeat the purpose of a reference book, unless you want to learn the similarities and differences of sil Lim Tao of other lineage)2. Applications (should be similar between lineage)The opening chapter of the history of Wing Chun was quite interesting. I am glad I bought this book.

Excellent!!!
I've read this book from cover to cover 5 times in the last few days. I've assembled a decent Wing Chun library over the years and consider this book one of the best. The book covers a lot of topics including a very detailed history of the art, theories and concepts, footwork, attack defense, terminology, a very detailed explanation of the first and second form (Sil Nim Tao and Chum Kiu), displaying every move with pictures and terminology, a short section on wooden dummy training, weapons (broadsword and long pole), but my favorite section and what I think separates this book from others is the trapping and application section (which by itself is worth the price of the book). This book is a great introduction for beginners and I think even intermediate and advanced practitioners will learn something new. The author Sifu Jon Rister was taught by one of the great masters of Wing Chun, Francis Fong, who learned from Jiu Wan, a Wing Chun legend and close friend of Yip Man. Overall, I highly recommend this book to any serious practitioner thats looking for a modern, more combative approach to this amazing art. A+

Lots of Photos
I agree with Brandon's review--very heavy on photos. This design choice would have been understandable perhaps 30 years ago, but for 2016, in the age of youtube and online courses, I would expect to see these sorts of explanations explained otherwise in a more modern, user-friendly, and complete companion video format instead. There is certainly some useful insight that is worthwhile at the current Kindle price, but I'm definitely looking forward to other books on the subject.

Impressive
I cannot think of a fighting form that this book would not enhance. My Kali, JKD, and Silat have all improved drastically since reading this book. "Attack, attack, attack" is a simple, but commonly overlooked theory. As a bodyguard I have one chance to get things right, and the instructions from this book puts me at a sizable advantage to any threat. Get it. Read it. Practice!

Light on explanation, heavy on photos
The book is a quick read, it's very light on details. 90% of the book is photos of direct examples. While I like the examples, I was really hoping for more explanation of strategy.

Just OK
Its ok. If you've been practicing for over 2-3 years, there's nothing really new in here. For the price its cool, but I wouldn't buy it again

Five Stars
Great book for information that usually is not given to students of Wing Chun

Three Stars
A good try - but not.
