The cable is exactly what I was looking for but the vendor's description should be clear that the cable also provides audio line output for the old style ipod/iphone, not the headphone jack output, for direct connection to an amp audio line input, which is what I wanted. Meaning the cable is bidirectional. This means the output is before the ipod's volume and equalization sections, which means those ipod controls do not affect the output. References to the Apple 'Dock' unit implies it's only for connecting that dock to a headphone jack, not the ipod 30 pin/USB connector. Ie, the cable can also be used to connect an ipod to a car's AUX input. An example photo showing that connection would clarify that. The price is also reasonable.

The first cord I received played music from my iPod but cut out if the cord was moved at all. Immediately requested a replacement which had a different issue, it played music but not in stereo. Now I just want a refund but looks like I'll be getting nothing. It's cheap and poorly constructed. Don't waste your time or money.
