SHIMANO PD-EH500 SPD & Flat Dual Sided Bike Pedal for Indoor Cycling & Urban Riding

I purchased the SHIMANO PD-EH500 pedals for my Zwift setup with a KICKR CORE trainer, and they’ve already made a huge difference! I had been using the pedals that came with the bike, which honestly looked like they belonged on a child’s bike. I already had Shimano clips for my shoes (which I use on my Trek hybrid road bike), so I wanted something versatile that could also work for my spouse, who doesn’t have clip-in shoes. These pedals are perfect! The double-sided design gives us both options: I can clip in for a smooth, efficient ride, and my spouse can use the flat side with regular shoes. I’ve only used them once so far, but I can already tell they’re a game-changer. My ride felt so much smoother, and my feet stayed in one place on the pedal—exactly what I needed. I got these for my transition between road biking - where I've been using SPD pedals for years - and mountain biking where I was finding that I needed/wanted to be clipped in for some thing and unclipped for more difficult terrain. First, the pedals are top quality. They are incredibly easy to get into and unclip from. They are light and just built well overall. The flat side is not as big as a normal flat MTB pedal though so be aware of that. If this kind of pedal is what you want, you will not be disappointed. Having said that, I've switched to flat pedals on my MTB. In the end, I got tired of trying to decide whether to use the clip side or the flat side. The clip side is great for that feeling of being solidly connected to the bike but it was holding me back from tackling more and more difficult terrain. The fear of not being able to unclip if I couldn't manage a section was getting in my head and making me not try things. It's too hard to anticipate the proper side in dynamic terrain. Plus, it was too hard to find the right side if you had to start on a hill or some difficult patch. I switched to regular flat MTB pedals and have been much happier. Knowing I can get out has given me much more confidence to tackle tough sections and I've enjoyed riding them much more. Given the proper shoes, my feet stick pretty well on the pedals anyway so it's not as bad as it could be. My feet do come off every once in a while but overall, I'm glad I went flat. That's not the fault of these pedals though so I stand by my high rating.

If you enjoy or are seeking a “two sided pedal”, this is an excellent and affordable choice. I put about 25,000 miles (over three years) on my first set of these pedals before buying a new set; and I didn’t buy a new set because the old one wore out, I just wanted a “shiny new set”. Getting in and out of the clipped side of the pedals is smooth and easy, and they secure very nicely to my shoes. The non-clipped side of the pedals have many protrusions and efficiently keep my shoes from sliding off the pedals.

Nice pedals; but they are NOT black or even charcoal gray, but rather a very distinct metallic blue-gray. If you are particular about color, this may annoy you. Aside from this, Shimano SPDs are my go-to pedals, I put them on all my bikes. But they should really fix the color on this model to be neutral. Black would work for everyone.

I've tried many pedals from Shimano including some lighter ones and SPD-SL, but just keep coming back to these. Very stable, good power transfer, and gives option to ride without clipping in if needed here and there

I purchased two sets for my Trex Emonda road bike and Trex Checkpoint gravel bike. The model SH-SM56 cleats are great for disconnecting from the Shimano pedals at different angles. On days when I do not want to clip in, simply flip the pedals to the flat side and use regular shoes.

Great addition to my endurance road bike SL-6. I installed the pd t8000’s on my fFX-6 hybrid carbon bike and road 5years about 15k miles. I initially purchased another set of the pd t8000’s for my new road bike but clipped the sidewalk twice within two weeks. The endurance road bike is shorter and corners harder. I then installed these pedals. I was reluctant at first as others indicated the platform was too narrow. I have a wide foot and have no issue with these. These are great pedals and because they are narrower I have not clipped the sidewalk!

Sono passato dai pedali piatti a questi, una differenza enorme. Ci vuole un po' di tempo per abituarsi, basta tenerli inizialmente morbidi, il piede non scivola più e posso applicare molta più potenza sulla MTB. L'aggancio e lo sgancio sono fluidi, danno una buona sensazione di solidità e affidabilità. All'inizio erano troppo duri, ho spruzzato un po' di WD40 nella molla ed ora sono perfetti.

Returned the first pair of pedals because they were the wrong colour (grey) wanted black .Second pair arrived colour GREY.. Great pedals...
