Foam is easy to apply
I used the John Frieda site to choose a color to cover greys and stay with my normal color (dark ashy brunette.) The color choice I was given was Lightest Cool Almond. I can use that color, or lightest natural brown and get a slightly lighter than my natural original shade of ashy darkest brunette. The foam is SO easy to apply. After mixing in a plastic bottle, adding the developer to the color in the plastic bottle, you screw on the nozzle and squeeze the bottle to dispense the foam. The instructions show you how foamy your hair should be--it should be very sudsy with foam. But it doesn't drip. You leave it on 20-30 minutes (I do 30 for stubborn greys) and then rinse it out and follow with a thick conditioner. There is no smell, either. This color worked well. I was a bit nervous. Normally, I use a salon, but frankly, I can't see using a salon when all I do is cover grey--no highlights. The issue is I have no red or gold highlights in my hair, and ashy tones are troublesome as they are a blue component in hair dye. Do it wrong, and you get weird results.I mixed up the foam in the applicator and followed the directions exactly (they are very well described in the pamphlet.) The foam went on easily, and I knew enough not to apply it to the ends--simply work down narrow partings, and coat the hair, wearing the included gloves. At the end, when the hair is soaked with the foam, you can work some of it down the hair length (I have chin-length hair.) This avoids the fact that ends absorb more color.I waited thirty minutes, but should have gone forty-five, for more grey coverage. However, the color looked excellent, and I showed it to a friend who also does her own. She gave it the stamp of approval. This is a lot easier to use than I imagined. I had no drips (the foam is easy to keep in place) and the color was what I expected. There is no bad smell. For a first-time "color yourself" newbie, I was very pleased as I got good color advice and the product is easy to use. Despite being quite sensitive to some cosmetics, I did not have a reaction. But best to do the patch test two days before, just in case...

So easy to use
Although I have to use it every 4 weeks, even my hairdresser tells me how natural it is and how much money Iām saving by dying my hair myself.

Perfect color and easy
I have been so happy since I started cutting and dying my own hair at home. I can get this John Frieda dye at the local make-up chain, but it is much more expensive, and I spend about $10.00 in gas driving down there. No one else seems to have this color available anymore, except on Amazon. I appreciate the low price, fast shipping, and reliability of Amazon. Be aware that the John Frieda colors don't come out according to their names. This is "Dark Caramel Blonde," and I am totally gray. The color does not come out blond, but a warm brown with golden and light red highlights. Yes, the highlights look like natural hair, not the "one-color" of most box dyes. Now that I've been doing this for awhile, I can apply the color in 7 minutes (it's a foam and doesn't drip). I wrap a garbage bag around my head and tape it on, and set the timer for 25 minutes. I have "hard to color gray" and so 25 minutes works perfectly; you might use less time. I bend over and rinse it out with warm water under the kitchen sink faucet, and towel it. Then I apply It's a 10 Miracle Hair Mask (gob it on) and leave it on for an hour. Then I rinse that out, too, and then shampoo and condition as usual in the shower. I tried a different hair dye brand once, and it came out orange. I'm back to John Frieda to stay. I highly recommend it. It used to cost me $60 to have my hair dyed in the salon, and my hair grows very fast - I dye my hair every 3 weeks. What a savings in money, time, and effort. With the plastic bag on my head, I can eat dinner with that on, or work on the computer, so the 25 minutes wait-time is not lost time. By using the plastic garbage bag, there isn't much of a smell. I really like that it doesn't drip. Also, I've stopped worrying about getting dye on my ears, because it only seems to color my hair. Highly recommend!

Love John Frieda hair color, just not this particular tint
I love John Frieda hair color because the mousse is so much easier to apply. This was just a bit brighter than I thought it was going to be because it actually lightened my hair. I only got this color because they discontinued my favorite color -- Light brown red -- and then discontinued the one I replaced it with -- medium brown red. I'm not sure why because they were great colors, so I decided to try this. Definitely very red. According to the box, my natural hair should have turned out an auburn color because I have medium to dark brown hair. Nope. It was bright red on my roots. Almost orange. I've washed it several times since, but I won't use this color again because that was just a bit much for me. It covers grays really well and it gives a good overall color with highlights so it doesn't look flat. It smells about as bad as most hair color, but not too awful. They could do with adding some botanical oils or something to make the smell a bit nicer. I like that they give you professional gloves to do this with -- not the crappy thin gloves that many hair colors come with. The application is easy -- just don't shake it. It won't look like it's mixed, but just tilt the bottle like the instructions say and when you squeeze it, mousse comes out. I make far fewer messes with this stuff than the color I used to use. I would get splatters all over my bathroom. I rarely have any drips with this one.I have fairly thick hair that is shoulder length and this is just enough to cover all my hair. If you have longer hair that is also thick, you may need two boxes.
