This is a actual ham radio transceiver. The manual is very poor and the software to program it is not included. I purchased the programming cable and software. I am still unable to program the radio unfortunately as I was looking forward to utilizing it due to its small size and wattage output. I can not recommend purchasing it due to such issues I've experienced.

This little unit works like a champ. Would recommend it for anyone looking for short distance communications.

This is not a toy. This radio is nice for what it is. It has a very small speaker, so while audio is plenty loud, it sounds like a tiny speaker. Receive sensitivity on mine is not as good as with my other larger radios, but since I have a repeater right at my work location, I can carry this radio in my pocket and use it just fine. People tell me that transmit audio sounds goot. Battery lasts all day for me. All the factory channels are simplex, but you can program repeater offsets, PL, DPL, hi/lo power, etc. You do need the software and cable to make this radio practical. The factory frequencies are as follows:1 450.05, 2 451.025, 3 455.025, 4 458.3125, 5 451.6125, 6 452.975, 7 459.975, 8 462.325, 9 463.425, 10 469.525, 11 439.7125, 12 443.725, 13 430.025, 14 440.025, 15 450.025, 16 469.975.In the United States, channels 11 - 14 are Ham Radio frequencies and require a Ham license. All other channels are business frequencies and require a business license. THERE ARE NO CHANNELS IN THE FACTORY PRESETS THAT CAN BE USED WITHOUT A LICENSE.

This unit is very solidly made and every bit as small as the picture shows.I needed to get the cable and software so I contacted customer service and they were very helpful and a pleasure to deal with.It took awhile to receive the cable and I am pleased.Would buy againCorrectionIt's as small as the picture

Well I got one of these and all it is a toy. The manual is joke, no support, no software to program. No web site to go to that I can find. Not worth 27 Dollars. Sure its tiny. Its got horrible intomod. I was picking up the 162.550 weather station from 15 miles away on 450 mhz. Dont wast your money!
