Worked excellent
I had to give it away because I'm old and didn't have the strength to actually smash anything; not the fault of the product. The younger person I gave it to had absolutely no problem using it.

Best potato masher ever!
This must be the best potato masher ever! We've all tried the usual types with holes, which require great effort with mediocre results, and you can get them at a dollar store. Then I switched to a handheld electric mixer, and if the speed is fast enough to mash the potatoes, it throws bits of potatoes around and requires too much milk. The design of THIS Dreamfarm Smood Masher is brilliant, and it worked so fast and so easily and so well that it was surreal. I thought I was dreaming. I always steam the spuds, as boiled food loses many nutrients into the water, and I now believe microwaved food gets altered molecules and reduced nutritional value, so I almost never microwave any more. I steam sliced potatoes and put them in a big plastic bowl, and use this masher. If I have cooked 6 medium size potatoes, the mashing requires only 1 dose of milk---only about 8 ounces, which is far less than an electric mixer needs. The consistency is great, it is fast, and I will never use any other type of masher. This is a wonderful design and is sturdily built. I cannot recommend this highly enough! Naturally, there will be mashed potatoes accumulating on the coils, so occasionally remove that with a rubber spatula, which works great for that. You will love this product and will be eating mashed potatoes a lot more often!! I sometimes add lightly fried diced onions and garlic and always pepper. Once the mashed potatoes are on my plate, I top them with margarine and / or Campbell's canned chicken gravy.

Mediocre
Thus far I have used to smash cooked beans and was underwhelmed by its performance. Have not tried on potatoes or other veggies. Would not order again.

Great heavy duty easy to clean masher!
This is a great masher, I like that it keeps the food in the center to mash unlike the flat ended ones that let the food escape. I used it for mashed potatoes and it was so easy to clean as well. My last one had tons of jokes in it and was plastic so it was much harder to clean. It's very heavy and sturdy with an easy to grip rubber end. The only thing I would change is to increase the diameter so you could mash more at a time.

My search for the perfect potato masher has ended
Update (7-30-2023): I've had this masher since 2012. I have used it at least once a week since purchase, and I still find it to be the most durable, easiest to clean and use, and best masher I've ever owned. It still looks like new. I use it to effortlessly mash bananas, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and avocados. It works okay on beans, but only if they are well-cooked and soft. Very satisfied.=*=*=(Original review from 2012)This is one cool little potato smasher. Perfect in every way and definitely worth the price tag.It did a superb job at mashing potatoes. The first time I used it, it took a moment to get used to the springing action. It feels like it is not getting to the bottom of the pan, but it is. Once I got used to it, I quickly made a pot of perfect, smooth and creamy mashed taters. It did a great job mashing some pinto beans, too. And avocados. And tofu for a dip. I've used it several times now, and I can tell you that it is going to be in my kitchen for a very long time.It is substantially made: solid, heavy gauge spring, and heavier in weight than other mashers I have tried, but well-balanced. It has a very comfortable handle. It is very easy to clean. It is also esthetically pleasing, and it comes in some cool colors. Image that - form and function!I just sent my old metal masher and my plastic KitchenAid potato masher to Goodwill. And, I'm going to get another of these cool gizmos for a gift for a friend who also eats a lot of mashed taters.

Extremely hard to push on spring- task much easier w/o it using hand or regular fixed masher.
It's extremely hard to push on the plastic spring coils- the task would be much easier not using this gadget, using a regular fixed masher is much easier. Handle is hard plastic and not the softer silicone of the more expensive much better version in the same Ad which has SS coils. The more expensive SS version is much better + does have a softer silicone handle, but even that better masher (which I also ordered), requires extra force to push down on the spring coil than a fixed masher would require. This masher is terrible: I will look for a stationary masher with a soft silicone handle as any spring coils require additional effort & strength to flatten them before any mashing can take place (though I haven't seen any stationary, non-coil or non-spring masher that has a soft handle.

I love this tool!
It doesn't mash potatoes as smoothly as a mixer, but it does a really good job. I think it'll take a little practice. It's very easy to use. And makes the work quick. I misplaced my first one (we're redoing the kitchen) so I just ordered two more. My grand daughter loves it too.

It's easy to use, mashes potato easily and great value
I have been using potato ricer for years but now as I am getting older I'm having problems pressing the handles together and it's leaving my arms aching the next day. I bought a device which would whip cream and mash potato but the potato was the 'cheffy' kind where it is more like puree and that is not what our family likes, we want to feel the texture of potato. So we started looking but nothing appeared right for us. The closest was a large potato ricer kind of device with a handle to turn rather than press together but it was about £50. Then on a tik tok review my daughter saw this and it was perfect for us, the video she saw included a shot of the masher being placed on top of a single potato and mashing it perfectly, it also works great on a full bowl of potatoes and the silicone scraper works a treat. It's so simple to add this to the edge and means you don't have to go and get a spatula to finish the job. The price was really good, I don't know what it is but I find it really hard thinking of spending a lot of money on something to mash spuds, it just doesn't fit in my thoughts somehow and under £20 was perfect. Love it!

Wow
Was given this as a present by my adult daughter. I thought it would be a gimmick, but it works better than any other masher I've had.
