HurttaCasual Quilted Overall Dog Coat, Heather, 24L

Every shorthaired dog should have one of these for winter!
The media could not be loaded. Firstly, I need you to buy this overall right now. You won't find anything better, so just do it! Several of my neighbors bought it for their dogs after seeing mine with it, and hearing me gush over how awesome it is.Now that that's out of the way, I'd like to start off with the disadvantages:1. In the first week after getting this, our dog walked around pretty stiff because he wasn't used to it yet. This is not a design flaw, it's just dog behavior. Our dog gets used to new clothing pretty fast, so yours may take a bit longer to feel comfortable in it. Once he got used to wearing the overall, it became clear that it doesn't hinder his movements at all. He's perfectly capable of walking with a normal gait (and running, pouncing, digging holes) while wearing this.2. He hates the process of putting it on. Not because it's uncomfortable to wear, but because - like many dogs - he hates having his feet touched. Touching the feet is unavoidable though, because I have to pull them through the sleeves. Again, it's not a design flaw, it's just dog behavior.3. Dew claws can get caught in the sleeves, and hurt the dog while putting it on. This might be a design flaw, though I don't know how it could be fixed. You can however avoid this problem, by sticking your arms through the sleeves first, THEN grabbing the dog's wrist (thereby covering the dew claw with your palm), then pulling the leg through the sleeve. Problem solved.4. The sleeves for the hind legs don't bend when the legs do, so the feet can slip up into the sleeve if the dog sits, lies down, or otherwise bends his legs too much. Because of this, I wouldn't leave my dog in this overall unsupervised, or "just to hang out". As long as the dog is walking around though (as is the case when you take them for a walk), it won't be a problem.5. If the dog is wearing a collar underneath the overall, the part that's supposed to cover the neck can get peeled back by it. However, why would you want to risk a collapsed trachea and spinal damage anyway? Just do the smart thing, and use a harness. Don't pull your dog around by the neck. ;)Here's why you should buy it anyway:1. Thanks to the sleeves, the hairless area under the elbows isn't exposed to cold air like it would be with a regular dog jacket. No cold winds can flow across the dog's chest. In other words, unlike most dog jackets, this overall isn't completely useless.2. The material is thin enough to not limit the dog's movements, like a thick jacket would. Additionally, his regular harness is still able to fit over the overall. The downside is that when temperatures reach extreme colds, we need to put another jacket over it. (That's when we needed a larger harness.)3. It's water resistant. You can take your dog for a potty break while it's raining, and it will keep the dog dry. Water resistant does not mean waterproof though. It won't stay dry if your dog rolls around in the snow for hours, or if he jumps into a river. Be reasonable.4. We washed the overall multiple times when it got muddy, and dried it in the dryer. It survived in perfect condition. My dog is not a sighthound, but he is on the skinny side. He's 33lb with a shoulder height of 18in. I've attached a naked picture of him as well, so you can compare him to your dog, to help you decide what size to get. We bought the sight hound version (18L) of this overall for him, and it fits. I wasn't sure which size to get, so I bought one that's a bit larger just to be safe. It hangs slightly over his butt, but the tail holds it up and keeps it clean while he poops. If your dog has a tail and is between sizes, don't hesitate to get the larger one. If your dog has a docked tail or a bobtail... you can add that to the list of disadvantages.

Very well made
Finding a warm coat for my whippets, who are oddly shaped, has been difficult. I randomly saw an ad for the Hurtta coat in an email from the AKC and the models were whippets! So I knew they would at least fit in the right way. This coat is extremely well made, it keeps my dogs warm without being bulky. The dogs were even able to run in them, which is crucial for whippets specifically. It was a little confusing to find the right size, as Amazon doesn't have the breed size recommendations that Hurtta provides on their website, but you can just go there to find it. I went with the size 50L/20L, which is the larger size for whippets. If you can afford this for your whippet, I would highly recommend it!

Well-made and high-quality. Sizing can be tricky but don’t give up.
This fit very well and felt very well-made. Something to note, the zipper runs along the top of the spine which means you have to put the jacket on from the underside up. If your dog is not accustomed to having their feet handled or pulled through sleeves, this can make the jacket additionally more of a struggle. Fortunately the dog in the picture is accustomed to putting on clothing lol. The description is accurate in that the measurement along the spine is the most important with regard to sizing. In other words if your neck and chest measurements are way off relative to the spine measurement, it’s best to choose a size closer to the spine measurement. The dog pictured is wearing 18 L. Because her neck is so skinny, the opening where the neck goes in the jacket is relatively large on her. This is nothing and additional neck scarf can’t fix. Overall it fits very well and has ample space for them to do their business without getting the jacket soiled. I suspect this will last a very long time and is well insulated so it should keep her warmer than any of her sweaters can. Also important to note that there is a little bit extra wiggle room in this jacket to layer up if your dog has a smaller sweater. Alternatively, the jacket does not appear to hinder the application of a harness, as you can see in the photo. The dog pictured where is her harness on the outside of her jacket however there is an opening near the shoulder blades for a clip if you wanted to put your dogs harness on first.Leg openings sit high enough on the ankles to hopefully minimize dirt or water getting on the jacket. Paired with winter booties, the two accessories would go well together.Very satisfied overall and other than the intricate sizing leaving lots of uncertainty, if you get it right the first time it’s a very well-made jacket. The price is a bit steep, but if you live in colder climates it’s very well worth it.For those who are curious, The dog in my photo is wearing a Ruffwear tactical harness as well. I highly recommend that product in addition to this jacket. It has a soft handle along the spine for picking up the dog in cases where you may need to control them quickly.

Good quality
Bought a size 14L for my 18lb basenji. The legs are very short on her. Will be returning for a 16L. I was surprised at how thin it was. I expected it to be thicker since it's a winter "snowsuit" yet I can't find anything else available that looks like it will fit the basenji body type. I wish the zipper was metal. Hoping it holds up. I will probably use some merino wool and fabric glue to add some warmth to the inside of the body area. I wish they sold one that was actually for cold illinois temps. Will also be spraying with the waterproofing spray to keep it from getting wet on snow days. The look, feel and quality of the material is good.

Fits Dobermans!
We have a blue Doberman and they have very little fur. She gets cold easily and this fits her perfectly!

Brilliant. Love it
Not as thick or padded as I was expecting but its still warm and fits perfectly. i put something on my hairless dog underneath for extra warmth. The coat certainly does the job and is very attractive and well made if pricey. Everyone comments on my dogs coat when we are out x could do with an opening in the back or neck for harness or collar though.

Absolutely recommend!
So happy with this dog suit! Best purchase I’ve made. The key (as stated in other reviews) is to make sure of the back length for proper fit. Legs were a bit long but no problem rolling them up. It’s adjustable and amazing quality! Worth every penny! My female Jack Rustle HATES the cold and we live in Quebec Canada. She refuses to go out for our walks when it’s below the freezing mark. I got her the 14L size (she’s about 12” high and 15” long) Yesterday it was -33c and she was walking like it was summer out! She loves it! Great design, easy to put on and QUIET to walk with. I did put her weather/water proof jacket on top because it was snowing and blowing. She actually wanted to go into the snow with it on when usually she sears clear of it 😃. It is waterproof and kept her dry and warm. Absolutely recommend.

Quality, details, construction, design and fit were great. 24L - 70lbs Weimaraner
My @70-pounds Weimaraner fits nicely into the 24L size. We went for a 2 km hike immediately after trying it on and she seemed comfortable and was wagging her tail. The quality of stitching seems to be very good and like it will hold up. My dog is 14 years old and gentle so this may not be the case with a much younger dog that likes to scratch, etc. It could be slightly smaller and tighter but where I know the size fits right is with the spacing between her front paws. The smaller size would have been too restrictive with her frontal movement. She's gone to the bathroom in it and it's designed well for good coverage but still allows for clearance on those issues. I'd get another for a different dog. Use the size chart, it worked well and where I was thinking of going larger, I'm glad I didn't. See photo for reference.

Almost there
Really good overall for a Mexican hairless dog. it fits nicely without being too lose. The only problem is that it's very hard to pass the paws through the legs opening. the openings could be a bit bigger. I also miss the harness opening on the back.

Warm & Well Built
Purchased this for my Catahoula for our winter activies in Northern BC Canada. We have used it for two winters now and everything is holding up well.PROS - It is easy to get on, keeps him warm and doesnt cause static like other coats have (even when doublecoated when we are out on colder days). Easy to clean. My dog wears this for chores, walks and play time - he can run, jump and roll around with ease.CONS - The fabric does not stretch very much at all - so proper measurements is important. Due to it not stretching, it may not let them 'stretch out' as much for running or high energy activies. We had to exchange after our first one was not the right side - seamless and pleasent to deal with and exchange.
