Got my old old refrigerator going again
It's probably a good idea to keep some of these around cause the fridge won't run without it and they do crap out every few years. Using it on a 1/4hp capacitor run fridge compressor and it works just about perfect. Good cost effective part and easy enough to replace!

Save yourself the money!! Great replacement part!
Before you call a repairman, who will most likely tell you your compressor is broken and it will be $500.00+ to replace, check YouTube on how to check your compressor (very easy), you will most likely find out it is your relay. Super easy to install! These have 4 prongs, but DO NOT WORRY if your compressor only has 2 or three connectors. This one will work and work flawlessly. Could not be happier!

Perfect
My 21 cu ft Whirlpool refrigerator was bult in 1997, bought next year and lasted 25 years before this PTC relay failed. This old refring has become our 2nd one used for keeping extra bags of flour, meat and drinks so not opened every day.My refrig took about 36 hours to operate normally again by cycling as it should so be patient.A few obvious suggestions while cover is removed from back of refrig.Clean the fan blades.Blow off the condenser fins, be prepared for a mess.Without an air compressor to blow off the fins/coils, perhaps a can or two of compressed air for blowing off electronic equipment could work instead.Make a drawing or take a few pictures of the connections.I used a common blade screwdriver (or flat head screwdriver as some call it) to gently pry the old relay away from the compressor. The compressor has three round pins that the relay plugs into.No need to disconnect the wire to the overload device, simply lay it aside. If the overload device is open, strong chances are the compressor is shot so I wouldn't worry about replacing the overload device. The PTC relay rattles when shook as other have stated because the thermistor disk inside has disintegrated and so cannot function anymore.I also ordered a relay and overload device as a kit from another supplier before I realized the overload device is not needed.

Great find!
Had this older refrigerator in the garage. Compressor stopped working and the wife said well I guess we need a new one. With the help of a youtuber, I was able to track down the problem to this relay. Fifteen minutes and nine dollars later the fridge is working better than ever. Easy fix and saved myself $2,500!

...well made compressor start PTC relay...
This fits my very old whirlpool side by side fridge. It is the compressor start PTC relay and seems well made with clean, polished contacts which are sturdy and likely to hold up unlike the one I purchased about two years ago which self destructed due to overheating poorly made (too thin, small and weak) element contacts inside. Shipping was prompt-packaging was first class.

1998 Kenmore coldspot 10657058791. Best $14 ever spent!
-Used in a Kenmore coldspot 10657058791My refrigerator would not cool after cleaning the coils and made a clicking sound and the compressor would not come on and the fans continued to run. This fixed the problem. Pictured is the original part in darker brown beside the new one. The old one had one prong instead of the 4. I simply attached the wire to the prong in the same position as the old one and presto! My refrigerator is alive once again! Best $14 ever spent.

Works!
I needed this for a failed 20 year old Kenmore small refrigerator. Plugged in this and the refrigerator works perfectly again. Very good value for money.
