These posts with thumb wheel screws are often used on guitar bridges for height adjustment. Some types of tune-o-matic style bridge use these. Also used in adjustable mandolin bridges. The stud (post) is fitted firmly into a hole using an allen key. The thumb wheel is screwed on to the post. The bridge then rests on top of the thumb wheel allowing the height to be adjusted.
