Not a good choice for a mechanical HDD
It certainly looks the part, and I like how the cable is integrated and the way it can be tucked away. Performance is good - the USB 3.1 interface doesn't gimp the transfer rates in any way that I have noticed in day to day use.The rugged features area mixed bag, unfortunately:It has good amount of edge and corner protection but the top and bottom offer next to none. There is a small square of adhesive foam to affix to the underside of the removable top plate but that's all. There no protection underneath the drive, and no room to add any. The underside is covered by a thin sheet of rubber, but that will offer practically zero shock protection - making the enclosure a few millimetres thicker to include space for a foam pad under the drive would have made a huge difference to it's utility.I'm using it with an SSD, so bump protection isn't much of an issue, but this is virtually useless for protecting a spinning disk from significant knocks or drops.
