This mic is often compared to the industry standard Sennheiser MKH416 and, owning both, I can assure you that this is with good reason! The S Mic 2 is a stunning mic at this price. OK, If your equipment budget can absorb circa £850 for a Sennheiser MKH416, you certainly won't regret it. However, If you're starting out and need a really high-quality shotgun mic for your video setup, you really can't go wrong with the Deity. This isn't the kind of item that you will be putting on eBay after a year of ownership due to upgrading, as it will always serve you well. As for the sonic differences between this and the Sennheiser, they most definitely exist, but practically speaking, these mics are so close that I certainly wouldn't fret if I turned up at a shoot with the wrong one in my kit bag.

Deity is to Microphones, what Aputure is to Lighting. Probably cos their the same company. Unless you wanna drop over $1500 for Sennheiser or Nuemann mics, stick with Deity over Rode!
