National HardwareN208-686 V1893C Center Spring Lid Support in Antique Brass, 7.6"L x 3.7"W

This was a replacement for a hinge support on a cedar chest. Exactly the same dimensions so I could replace a broken one.I will say, if you're looking for something that will do a soft-close on your lid, this is not it. This is a support so the lid stays 90-degree open or doesn't open too far and over the back. Once you start closing your lid, it will slam down past 45 degrees. But this doesn't claim to do soft-close -- it is as advertised.

I bought these hinges to replace the old ones on an ottoman that opens up and they fit great and seem to be made well.

I bought these to replace cheap foreign-made ones that I bought from a different vendor on Amazon. One single National Hardware hinge handles more weight than two of the cheap ones, easily. The quality difference isn't even close. Super happy with these.

Not exacly sure why, but this pair of lid supports seemed to have a weaker spring than the other identical sets I've used. Usually they hold the lid at about 85 degrees, these would not hold the lid open at all.I've built a lot of chests and favor these lid supports. I hope this set was an anomaly and not the new norm. One screw head twisted off on install, too.They still provide a soft close, so I let them stay on. I can understand the frustration of first time buyers with the fact there are no installation instructions, as well.

Bought two to replace two on a cedar chest. The supports do not the weight of the lid. It is not a big chest. The lid slams shut and cannot stay open when fully open. The rating of these with two in place is incorrect at best. Will not recommend.Update: These hinges failed and nearly smashed my hand in the chest. I was able to pull my hand back but still caught the end of my thumb. These should be taken off the market as they do not meet their weight rating and can cause injury.

Cedar chest cover, fit as original

Looks and fits exactly like the broken hinge it replaced, but does not hold up the lid of the solid cherry chest on which it is installed. Not safe. If there is a way to adjust this spring hinge, there are no directions included for doing so.
