I must thank the author for being truthful and telling it like it is. Money is the root of all evil, it makes the world go round so to speak. It is no wonder other countries exploit other countries for their resources, or people exploit other people for their labor. Same goes for some flight schools and the exploitive methods they use to stay in business. After all in a capitalist society money is made by cheap labor and cost control which leads to some form of exploitation. So let's look at the big picture - without flight schools there would be no need for training airplanes or organizations like AOPA, every one is feeding at the trough. So it is no wonder unregulated flight schools are able to pop up at will and stay in business by recruiting unsuspecting foreign students who pay for their training up front without a guarantee that they will even become a qualified pilot much less get a job as a pilot.

Ben's restaurant comparison is right on the money!!! You need to read this part. There is a good reason why we pay after we eat!!! I was an unpaid volunteer flight instructor at a startup college of missionary aviation in north central Florida. I knew that the business model was flawed, but I had blind faith in the founder, and after 2 years finally realized how devious the scam was. I deeply regret my involvement and I want to apologize to the students involved. They had the most honorable of intentions.

This book starts off a bit slow, but quickly builds into an interesting read. The author uses his experience to relay the issues and problems plaguing the flight school industry. Clearly there is a need for regulation and change. Not only has he had firsthand experience with the schools and run ins with organizations like NATA and AOPA, but he cares enough to gather forces and take a stand so other potential students do not go through the same headaches and loss of funds that he and many other students went through.Going so far as to enter the political realm to try to get regulations changed to protect students Ben is, no doubt creating a name for himself along the way. Being interested in becoming a pilot myself and doing the research on the costs led me to realize it was not something I could pursue with two kids. How many others turn away from this dream due to the costs involved? I'm glad someone is taking a stand to try to find the answers, get the industry regulated and blow the whistle on the rip off artists disguised as schools and taking advantage of students.Reading this book makes me want to see a full scale investigation and documentary on the subject. Perhaps the answer is getting the general public involved and aware of what's going on. Surely after 9/11 more people would care about making sure our aviation industry is regulated and held accountable.This book has valuable information about the order of ratings you need, reliable schools, software and flight simulators that will help those that are seeking a career as a pilot to achieve that dream. There's also information for teens that are interested in flying. I enjoyed this book - its well worth reading!!

Always repeat the title if the book,very boring

This is a definite MUST READ for anyone considering investing their hard-earned money in becoming a career pilot! Being one with little prior knowledge about the flight training industry, I always assumed everything was somewhat standardized... but... NOPE! Shady schools can "legally" get you to prepay huge sums of money, and then basically cut and run with your cash! Not only can they do this, but is has been going on for tens of years! By some of the same offenders repeatedly!!! Read this book and join the force to regulate pilot trainee tuition and circumstances. Ben has already helped several states pass laws to force the scammers to follow regulations.This quick (couple hour) read will not only give the prospective student the scoop on the crimes being regularly committed, it will also explain how to properly go about getting everything needed to become a pilot without wasting your money and avoid all scams.If you want the honest nitty-gritty truth of EXACTLY how everything REALLY operates, this book is cold hard vital information. Being a 34 yr. old, about to get started with training to become a career pilot, this book lays out the $$$ numbers and does not "BS" around! Even if your not in a situation to end up being "scammed", you still will find this a super valuable read to understand how to plan your training!Thanks Ben! Eye-opening, earth shattering, honest truth that is a Must Read for all who are thinking about becoming a pilot.Becoming a pilot has always been a dream of mine and while looking on Amazon for instruction books on how to become one I stumbled upon: “Don't Pay Any Flight School More Than $2500 In Advance: The Censored Information The Bad Guys Don't Want You To Know.” Call it fate or fortune that I did so because Ben’s book saved me the possible downfall of investing and trusting in a company that could have stolen from me.It’s amazes me that the government allows companies the ability to operate and perform scams of this nature.
