Beautiful but it does not retain heat as declared
Unfortunately my return window elapsed. Two stars for beauty. After testing as instructed (boiling water to sit in the thermos and it was lukewarm a couple of hours later) alas this beautiful Hotello Alfi vacuum jug does not perform anywhere close to reports. I bought the .6 liter and it, by far, under performs our Yeti and Corcicle thermos for our coffee, but it is beautiful. I would not recommend this very expensive item for what it promises.

Made in China not Germany !!!
Haven’t used it yet so not sure how good of a job it does but we paid a premium for the made in Germany product vs. a $27 made in China copy. This arrived and clearly is not made Germany.

DO YOUR RESEARCH
This is NOT missing any kind of seal (as some claim in their reviews), its lid design is ingenious (for both keeping beverages hot and for easy opening and closing by itself when you pour, and it works very well. Read on for details...I really miss being able to respond to people's reviews on here like we used to be able to.Yes, this says "Made in Germany." It also says first on Amazon October 10, 2016 (when it WAS made in Germany). Since then Alfi was sold to Thermos and then Thermos sold it again. This is made in China. DO YOUR RESEARCH instead of feeling like you accomplished something with a negative review just so you feel better. This is not a glass thermos inside like the classic Alfi "Juwel" design (that worked well, was easy to break, and no replacement parts available). This is a carafe for serving over the course of a meal. It keeps liquids hot or cold for about that long. Don't expect more. Even with the Alfi "Juwel" that did keep coffee hot for hours, the flavor still changed after a few hours, so be reasonable about your expectations. As for the person that said in their "review" that the item came "stained," well guess what. You probably were sent an Amazon return. (I once bought a spice rack and when I opened the box someone had already written on and applied some of the labels. Did I freak out and leave a negative review? No, I asked for a return/replacement and got on with my life. In all my years of Amazon purchases this has only happened a couple times. I honestly wonder what people think happens when they make low price and fast shipping their main priorities in choosing who to buy from. Stuff happens. Deal with it. And review the product, not your purchase experience here.)Works great for what it is. Looks great. Despite not being the Alfi made in Germany for decades anymore, Alfi is still a quality manufacturer, and not other carafes that are the same design made in China and sold under different names. This product IS actually designed for hotel use, hence the name of the line it's in.You can do research about it on the Net before purchasing. I suggest you do.And on a final note, to those saying this is missing a rubber seal, since I did do the research, the literature for the Alfi Hotello carafe says specifically:"The first of its kind to be designed specifically for the Hospitality industry. The Hotello was designed with a completely unique sealing system that has no plastic or silicone parts."The lid on this is about a 1" tall cylinder and sealed, so I assume it keeps in heat because the sealed "chamber" becomes hot inside and traps heat. It doesn't look about 1" tall when closed, but it is. Pretty clever actually. The innovative hinged design makes it extremely easy to pour, and it pours cleanly. The only downside I've found so far is that instead of sitting flat, this sits on four bumps on the underside and it wobbles slightly on a flat surface when empty. With liquid in it it providing weight it isn't an issue. I suspect it may not be an issue when set on a tablecloth, either.I would recommend this item and buy it again.UPDATE:In time there will be a brown film inside this. Taking a tip from Moccamaster on their stainless carafes, I threw in a dishwasher pod with some hot water, let it soak overnight, and rinsed it thoroughly the next day. It was sparkling clean again.I love this design and the fact that you don't have to unlatch a lid, just pour and the hinged lid opens by itself. I love the classic Alfi Juwel design aesthetically, but in daily use, this is a total winner. It's also had zero issues at all since I owned it, while on the very expensive Alfi Juwel the hinge pin for the lid worked its way out over time (a few years) and there was nothing to be done about it.UPDATE 2:I liked the first one I bought so much I bought the small one to use when I make pour over coffee. These perform beautifully and keep coffee hot for over an hour. Theyre very easy maintenance, too. I just clean them with a bottle brush and some dish soap (Dawn), then rinse and dry them off. I've been using the first one near daily for over a year and it's as new as the day I bought it. I can see why they must love these for hotel use, when all you have to do is tilt them forward and the lid opens itself via gravity, then closes itself in the same way, no rubber gasket at all and still keeps the coffee hot.

Not a thermos. A coffee holder for a table ...
This is not glass inside so it has limited heat-retaining properties. As the name implies, I think its a product to put coffee or tea on a table in hotels and restaurants. It keeps the liquid hot probably about as long as a breakfast or lunch. So don't be confused by the name. It is made quite well but is not what Alfi is known for -- glass enclosed carafes like the "Juwel" that keep your coffee hot for over 12 hours and somehow makes it taste better. They don't sell them much in the states or on Amazon. Mine went back to Amazon within 12 hours.

Don't pass this one by
Incredible ability to keep coffee hot. Others have commented about a missing gasket. It doesn't come with one because it's not necessary. So popular in our house that it wanders off!! We may buy another one!

Missing the seal....
It came without a seal or gasket. So, there is no seal to help retain the temperature wit in the thermos. Very disapoining because I see a previous buyer had the same experience. How is it to ship it complete?

Missing seal
It came without a seal. In the discriptuin it says “made in Germany” but the actual pot says “made in China. I am not happy with it.
