Burning Bush

This is a fantastic and important film. Originally a 3-part series for HBO the director recently merged it into one 3+ hour film. Amazon here is only providing the 1st two thirds, abruptly ending about 2 hours in. I would not rent or use Amazon to view this film until you can be certain they show the entire film before charging you.Extremely frustrating and Amazon offers no way to remedy.But? The film is powerful, the acting is perfection and the camera work is haunting. A must see.

Important part of history for me to have seen and again, as far as my 'humble opinion' is concerned, this was so well acted.Can't say it was THE best film ever but it was absolutely not - time wasted. One needs to 'care' about - history however toreally want to watch this and have the European way of things too…e.g. have lived there.

Every lover of freedom should watch this movie. And when they are done they should vow to never allow all forms of power to be centralized in one place, regardless of what they are being promised in exchange for giving up their liberties. The Czech's depicted in this movie were fighting totalitarianism against great odds. In their defense, Czechoslovakia never chose this form of government, the Soviet Union forced it upon them. But blame does fall on the Soviet Union that chose communism, practiced it for 70 years, and then dropped it as a mistake. They killed millions of their own people, enslaved other countries, and had a quality of life that was a fraction of what it could have been for entire lifetimes. If you don't believe giving government power over all economic activity, all police functions in society, all military functions in society, all judicial functions in society, and turning over local choices to a central authority doesn't lead to tyranny, think harder and pay attention to what happens in this movie.

excellent, i think it is necessary to be into political drama about persecution by the state of the unwitting....The Ear (Ucho) 1970 by Karla Kachyna and The Confession by Costa-Gavras are similarly themed but different times and circumstances...overall, all three are winners....check out the Conformist by Bertolucci...

I was very dissappointed, when my dvd-player could not read this dvd and I was about sending it back. But then I put it into my laptop and here, it worked (avi-player). I'm very curious about that film.H.U. Bühler, Switzerland

A very wonderful film about the abuses of the communist dictatorship in Czechoslovakia after the invasion and occupation of thatcountry by the Soviet Unión and allies of the Warsaw Pact. It shows the struggle of decent people against opression and lie.

Czechoslovakia in the 1960s. Watch it and see where we're headed today. Agnieszka Holland has made some great films (Hitlerjunge Salomon, Olivier Olivier, Washington Square, The Third Miracle, etc.) She's still at the top of her game.

I thought this was a porn movie and was disappointed---turned out to be a chick flick.
